Women are flaunting their bums after Kayla Itsines’ viral gym rant

Women are clapping back after an Australian fitness influencer went viral for stating she was sick of seeing women flaunting their “ass” at the gym.

'Sexualised': Aussie fitness star unleashes at 'booty' habit

“I don’t wanna see your ass.”

That was the message Kayla Itsines had for Australians after she seemingly saw one too many “booty workouts” while scrolling on Instagram recently.

But after venting her frustration in a series of videos last week, in which she took aim at women who film content from a “particular angle” under the guise of a “glute workout”, the tables have turned on the certified personal trainer and mum-of-two.

Some women have taken umbrage at the 33-year-old’s remarks and are now fighting back by sharing the exact videos Itsines said she “didn’t want to see”.

“Keep eating your protein girls and showing off your phat ass,” one woman wrote alongside a video of her back squatting in khaki bike shorts.

“Enjoy your coffee,” another replied, in response to Itsines comments that booty workouts were “not what I want to see when having my morning coffee”.

As another joked: “Good morning from Kayla Itsines’ favourite angle.”

News.com.au has contacted Itsines for comment.

The backlash comes after the fitness entrepreneur, who co-created the popular fitness app SWEAT, laid into the industry she works in, claiming it had become “too sexualised”.

“I probably wouldn’t care if I didn’t have kids, I’ll be like, ‘you do you, boo’,” she said in the now deleted video.

“I’m unfollowing you because I don’t want to see that, I don’t wanna see your ass, but you do you.

“However I have a daughter, and I’m trying to be an example to women. No drinking, no drugs, no smoking, no highly sexualised content.”

Itsines said despite her best efforts to avoid the content, “it’s everywhere”, and it has proved too much for her to bare.

“I’m scrolling, and she (my daughter) is sitting next to me, and I’m like ‘oh my God I don’t want you looking at another girl’s... from that angle,” she explained.

“It’s just not something I want to see.”

While there were some who agreed with her perspective, with some even likening it to porn, others argued that Itsines could be seen as being guilty of “sexualising” her own content.

Those people pointed out she regularly shares workout videos in figure-hugging activewear and noted she built her fortune on a workout brand initially called “Bikini Body Guides”.

The sentiment surrounding this has escalated in recent days, with many calling out Itsines for seemingly turning on her own community.

Public discourse on the topic intensified when she was spotted sporting a skimpy black G-string bikini at Wategos Beach in Byron Bay on Tuesday that showed off her behind.

“Yes, the fitness industry is over sexualised… but who is to blame for that? Perhaps look into stronger parental control and stop blaming women,” one argued on TikTok.

“But also could we stop sexualising glutes - just because someone wants to show off their glutes doesn’t make it sexual, i‍️t’s a muscle they’ve worked hard on,” shared another.

As another declared: “This coming from the same Kayla Itsines that doesn’t wear anything but a crop top, ever.”

Before she deleted the videos, there were several parents also agreed with Itsines, stating they had noticed a shift from being “strong, healthy, and informative to unobtainable, sexual and ‘how to make men want you’”.

“Thanks for saying this, I worry for my daughters,” shared one mum.

“Couldn’t agree more, especially as a parent,” mused another.
