A woman has been shot dead with her own gun after attempting to kill her ex-husband at work, sparking a violent struggle.

A woman in Brazil has been shot dead with her own gun after attempting to kill her ex-husband at work in a violent struggle caught on store security footage.

The 44-year-old, named in local media as Leila, ambushed her 43-year-old ex Marcos at a snack bar the couple jointly owned in the town of Poa, Sao Paulo state, on the afternoon of February 9, according to the Sao Paulo Public Security Secretariat.

Footage circulating on social media shows the woman entering the store and pulling out a revolver from her waistband as she sees her ex come around the corner.

She points the gun directly at his chest and attempts to fire as he flees back into the kitchen where three employees are seen working.

The woman appears to have difficulty firing the gun and a prolonged violent struggle for the weapon ensues, spilling from the store out onto the street.

The man eventually overpowers his ex as they wrestle on the street outside.

He gets his hands on the gun and shoots her in the stomach as she begins to stand up.

Both were taken to hospital but Leila did not survive, local media reported.

Marcos, who was shot twice during the attack, remains hospitalised in a serious condition.

Police are investigating the incident as suspicious death and attempted murder.

Preliminary information reportedly suggests the motivation was related to a financial disagreement.
