A vegan mum has shared how she makes her daughters pay for their own meat because she "doesn't want to contribute to the meat industries directly."
Luana Ribeira, 41, has taken her daughters, Seren, 13, and Electra, 12, along with her on her veganism journey, which she's been on since 2011.
However as they've gotten older, her daughters expressed their desires to move away from the restrictive diet, something that left their mum "gutted."

They felt like they were "missing out"
The mum told Newsweek that she was conflicted about what to do, as she wanted to allow her kids the freedom to make their own choices but "didn't want to support the meat and dairy industries with her own money."
So, she found a compromise that allowed her kids to eat meat - they have to pay for it out of their allowance.
"Being vegan is hugely important to me and it was a struggle coming to terms with the fact that my daughters didn't want to be vegan anymore, but it's their bodies and their beliefs," she said.
Ribeira explained that their decision was largely influenced by other kids at their school and a feeling of "missing out."
"I was gutted and so confused as they had been so passionate about it before," she admitted.
"I don't want to contribute to the meat or dairy industries, so the compromise was that they would buy it out of their own money. I'm not happy about it, but I have to give them the freedom to make their own choices."

They can "top up" their allowance by doing extra chores
The girls both get around $150 per month as pocket money to spend on whatever they like.
Ribeira says that about half of that ends up going towards meat and other non-vegan products.
She also revealed that they can "top up" their allowance and earn more money for meat by doing extra chores around the house if they want.

"That is just so wrong"
We asked the Kidspot team to weigh in on their thoughts.
"The mum sounds like she's trying to force her beliefs on the kids without forcing the beliefs on the kids," mum-of-two Leah said. "Still, if it meant extra spending money at the shops, I'd probably only buy meat twice a week if I were those children!"
And then Carly agreed, saying: "Sounds like a clever way to gaslight your kids into thinking they don't like meat... because I wouldn't like meat either if I had to pay for it at 13!"
And then Anne added, "That's just so wrong - she should wait until they're old enough to make those choices properly."
Clara concluded: "This feels manipulative and a way to make them eat less meat, not encourage them to 'freely make choices' like she said."
