“It might be you”

NSW Road Safety has taken to Facebook to put everyone’s assumptions to rest about why that red light is taking so long to turn green.

“Ever feel like a red light is taking forever to turn green? Well… it might be you,” the post said.

“Just kidding—but did you know sensors in the road detect vehicles waiting at stop signals?

“If you don’t pull far enough forward at the intersection, the sensor might not trigger the signal to turn green.

“These smart sensors help improve traffic flow, but during peak times, congestion can still happen. Stay patient, follow traffic signals, and let’s get everyone home safely.”

“I thought it was timed!”

Some commenters on the post were shocked at this news, saying they didn’t know it was controlled by sensors.

“I think A LOT of drivers don’t know this!” said one commenter.

“I thought it was timed not sensored,” another person said.

“This should be taught when having lessons”

However, others said this is old news, adding they’ve had to remind others of it at times as well.

“If it’s taking a while, sometimes I roll back, or move forward a bit and it can trigger the squares,” said one commenter.

“When I am stopped behind a car that is too far back I want to get out of my vehicle and go and tell them to move to the sensor,” another added.

“This should be taught when having lessons.”

“See lots of silly people sitting way back behind them, I actually had to get out & tell the car in front to move forward as we sat there for 2 sets, as soon as they moved forward……da dah.” a third driver said.
