The Chilli Oil Mcflurry is the new Maccas 'hack' you need to try (if you dare)

If you're a chilli oil fanatic like me, welcome. 

Only the best of us are. 

And if you prefer your chilli oil pared with a crunchy combination of garlic, MSG and other miscellaneous but delicious ingredients, you've likely tried the cult Lao Gan Ma brand. 

For just $4.30 from the international aisle in Woolies (or your local Asian grocer), you're treated to a flavour bomb you can put on anything from dumplings, soups, stir-fries and eggs.

But now TikTok has done what TikTok does best and paired it with something totally unusual and called it a 'hack.'

The Chilli Oil McFlurry takes the world by storm

Technically, TikTokers didn't come up with the idea themselves but rather got wind of the fact that it was a popular members-only menu item in China.

(THERE'S A MEMBERS-ONLY MENU IN CHINA?!?! We need to know more... but not now.)

Posting to her account, Aussie foodie Em from @ingredipedia shared the DIY sundae, which pairs the heat of chilli oil with the creaminess of the McFlurry. 

At first glance, it looks... confusing. 'Why would you pair something so savoury with something so sweet?' you might be thinking. 

But Em says it's "one of the best desserts" she's ever tasted.

It's sweet, salty, umami, hot and cold

"If you're looking for the ultimate McDonald's hack, look no further than bringing your own jar of Lao Gan Ma chilli oil and spooning it onto a plain sundae," she says.

After taking a bite, she describes the flavour as, "Sweet, salty, umami, hot and cold."

In the caption, she added: "MOVE ASIDE, CARAMEL! There’s a new fave in town."

"This sounds like indigestion"

But people weren't all convinced in the comments, with the 'hack' proving rather divisive. 

"I could not put 老干妈 on a Maccas Sundae, 😭"the top comment read.

Another said, "My IBS says no thanks," while a third added: "This sounds like indigestion."

Other commenters said: "Sorry, what?", "Yuuuuck" and "You are insane."

Then this person pointed out, "Oh cool I always have a jar of chilli oil in my pocket," to which Em replied: "If you don’t have a car chilli oil jar you’re not living."

"If I eat this its my death sentence, 💀" another follower concluded. 

"Welcome to the next chapter of your life"

But Em did find some like-minded people who said they would give it a go.

"I would definitely be trying," one said.

"I put chilli oil on everything so I feel like I’d like this and will try it," said another. 

Em replied: "Welcome to the next chapter of your life."

And finally, someone suggested adding a flake! Yummy.
