'Thank goodness for WFH!' Aussies reveal the grossest things they've seen at work

"One of them used to sit there and watch surgery and pimple popping videos on YouTube all day," said one person.

She opened the lime bottle and found this...

Let’s be real, everyone’s had a bit of a questionable colleague at one point or another. But, there’s a huge difference between someone being a little annoying, and someone being hardcore gross.

Aussies have shared some of the grossest things they’ve witnessed at work, and whatever you think it is, I promise it’s 10 times worse.

“Grossest thing you’ve witnessed?”

An Aussie Reddit user has taken to the platform in the r/auscorp subreddit, asking for the grossest things corporate employees have seen at work - and kicking it off with a banger.

“Grossest thing you’ve witnessed in the office?” they wrote.

“I’ll go first… someone cutting their toenails in a pod.”

And so, the floodgates were opened.

“Whole office stank like poop for [the] next hour”

Some things came down to common sense, with one user sharing two instances that taught them a lesson.

“Old workplace had a team of two that were our phone switchboard operators… They literally had no other duties, and one of them used to sit there and watch surgery and pimple popping videos on YouTube all day. Full screen. Their desk was right near the kitchen and you couldn't come or go from the kitchen without seeing their screen. They got so many warnings for it but kept doing it,” they wrote.

“At a different workplace I saw someone use a teaspoon, stir their tea, lick the spoon and then put it back in the drawer. It was my first corporate job and that was when I bought myself a plate, bowl and cutlery set to keep at my desk because I didn't realise people were that gross in reality. I was young and naive.”

And this was just the beginning of the kitchen faux pas, with foul smells a huge issue.

“Someone cleaned their week old protein shaker in the kitchen area. Whole office stank like poop for [the] next hour or so and everyone [was] trying to figure out what happened,” said one commenter.

“Reheating tuna in the communal microwave. Diabolical!” another added.

“They were eating a Woolies hot chook with their bare hands”

But, if this has set you off, maybe stop reading here, as the offences only got more obscure.

Odd - and disgusting - desk habits were a huge point of contention.

“We have to hot desk and at each desk there's a monitor, keyboard and mouse for people to use. This happened recently. One day I saw someone sit at their desk and they were eating a Woolies hot chook with their bare hands, alongside a bag of spinach. They were working as well so they used the keyboard and mouse in between eating,” one person said.

“Someone poking their nail clippings into the fabric pinboard divider between desks in an open plan office. He had quite the collection. He also kept a food scrap bowl on his desk to take home for compost,” said another.

Then, there was the most horrifying place of them all - the toilets.

“Walked in on someone brushing their teeth whilst pissing in the urinal. I said in astonishment… ‘wow, I’ve never seen someone doing both of those tasks simultaneously’… they replied ‘yeah, saves time’. I thought to myself… this guy clearly doesn’t get it,” one commenter said.

“Guy finishes taking a dump, leaves the cubicle, proceeds to the basin, doesn't wash his hands but repeatedly slurps water out of his hands instead and then washes his face by rubbing it all over,” another added.
