'So flattering': 3 women trial Cotton On’s new adjustable jeans

"I love a two for the price of one item, also they're super comfy."

Gen Z brings back skinny jeans in latest retro revival

Shopping for jeans is a notoriously dreaded task.

Between navigating inconsistent sizing and trying to keep up with the ever-changing trends (is high-waisted out and baggy in?), we often put it off for as long as we can.

But Cotton On might have cracked the code with one of their latest releases - the Adjustable Wide Jean.

These jeans promise the best of both worlds, allowing wearers to switch between high and low-waisted styles thanks to the adjustable waistband.

It’s no surprise that these jeans have quickly become a fan-favourite and are selling out quickly across the country.

About the Cotton On Adjustable Wide Jean

The Cotton On Adjustable Wide Jeans,  which come in two shades of blue, cost $79.99 and are available in sizes 8-24.

They feature a relaxed fit and a wide leg design, and can be worn buttoned for a high-rise look or unbuttoned for a trendy low-rise fit.

There’s also a middle button if you can’t decide between the two, or simply want a more mid-rise look.

The design is meant to be oversized, meaning the pants might pool at your ankles, but if you’re keeping up with the latest trends, this isn’t something to fear!

But if you prefer a more standard silhouette, Cotton On recommends cuffing the hem for a more polished look.

The reviews

The online reviews speak for themselves, with one fan saying: “Really comfy jeans, so cute and baggy, and they give such a nice hourglass figure.”

“Cute - the adjustable buttons are great for those with small waists and wide hips like me :)” said another.

“These are my new favourite jeans,” another rave review read. “I can wear them low-waisted or do them up on the first notch to make them sit a bit higher. These are so comfy, and I’ll be living in them!”

To see if they live up to the hype, we had three Kidspot team members put them to the test!

El, Size 8, Sea Blue

What did you like about them?

Firstly, I loved how comfortable they were. A big tick in my books!

Secondly, the adjustable feature was so handy and really helped me get the perfect fit, no matter what outfit I was wearing.

What did you not like about them?

I'd say the waistband adjustment could be a bit more seamless. Sometimes it felt a little hard to do the buttons up.

How did you find the adjustable feature?

Great! It gave me the flexibility to tighten or loosen the waist depending on my outfit or how I felt that day (or how much I'd eaten!)

I will say, though, that when wearing them high-waisted, the material does get a little bunched at the top, so I’d suggest wearing a baggier top or jumper to cover it up. Or, you know, if you don’t mind, you could just rock that look—a conversation starter, at least! "Oh, these? They're ADJUSTABLE!!"

What did you think about the quality of the denim?

The denim felt so soft! It definitely didn’t feel stiff or cheap like some other jeans in a similar price range.

And for $79.99, do you think they're good value?

Yes, for $80, I think they’re pretty good value, especially with the adjustable feature, which makes them more versatile than a regular pair of jeans.

It’s a two for the price of one moment!

Would you recommend these jeans to a friend?

Yes, they'd be a great option for people struggling to find a pair of jeans that fit just right.

Leah, Size 12, Crystal Blue

What did you like about them?

I loved how comfy and baggy they are. Without using the buttons on the side, the jeans sat at just the right height for me on my hips without having that overly baggy crotch area.

The material was nice and soft too unlike most jeans.

What did you not like about them?

When the side buttons are done up, they don't look super flattering on me.

How did you find the adjustable feature?

I don't think I'll use it much, as I prefer the baggier fit.

What did you think about the quality of the denim?

I loved the quality of the denim because of the softness.

And for $79.99, do you think they're good value?

I have the Kmart jeans that are similar and far cheaper, so there are definitely cheaper options out there, as well as more expensive ones that look just the same. I think these are good mid-range jeans.

Em, Size 10, Crystal Blue

What did you like about them?

I'm normally a mum jean / high-rise devotee, so I actually surprised myself with how much I enjoyed the looser fit as well as the jeans sitting lower.

The denim is soft and comfy and I'd argue for baggy jeans, the cut is actually quite flattering.

What did you not like about them?

This is not so much a criticism as a general note, but you might need to size down.

The first pair I tried (which are true to my normal size) made me look like a clown. They were also about eleventy billion times longer in the leg.

How did you find the adjustable feature?

I love the idea of it, but once I sized down I found I didn't need it. The jeans fit perfectly as they were.

You also would need to style them just right as the waist does 'ripple' once you use the smaller button options.

What did you think about the quality of the denim?

I thought it was pretty good for the price to be honest!

And for $79.99, do you think they're good value?

I think it's pretty rare to get jeans for $80 so I would say yes, although I am generally used to a lower price point from Cotton On.

Would you recommend these jeans to a friend?

I would definitely encourage more mums to explore baggier options because I was actually surprised at how flattering they could be.

And at $80, it's not a huge financial risk to take - plus they are comfy AF!
