Shoppers fuming over 'gross' new supermarket trend losing you money

"You wouldn’t believe it but it happened today when I was in there!"

Dos and Don'ts: Understanding cafe etiquette

There’s nothing more annoying than getting home from doing your grocery shopping and realising something you bought isn’t quite what you thought it was - especially if there’s less of it.

But, if you notice you’re short a few things in your cart, there may be someone else to blame but the factories, with a new and arguably more frustrating trend emerging in supermarkets.

Missing something?

An ALDI shopper has taken to Facebook to post anonymously in the ALDI Mums Facebook group, after noticing that her box of Oreos was a few bags short.

“Hi! I’ve just returned from my Aldi shop and realised my 18 pack of mini Oreos is actually a 15 pack!!” they said.

In the photo, you can see just 5 packs of Original, 5 of Chocolate, and 5 Strawberry - and something’s not adding up.

“Problem at the factory…”

Many commenters on the post were quick to blame the factory, saying that ALDI simply can’t help what’s sent to them to be put on the shelves.

“Problem at the factory when the machine does the packing,” one commenter said.

“Give [the factory] a call Aldi can’t do anything about it they just sell what the warehouse sends them,” another agreed.

“You wouldn’t believe it!”

But, others were quick to call out that it may actually be the fault of other shoppers - potentially even children.

“And sometimes it’s people who allow their children to open up boxes of food and help them selves!! You wouldn’t believe it but it happened today when I was in there!!!” one commenter said.

“yeah I would think this would be the exact reason!!!!” another agreed.

“i noticed 4 to 5 boxed of cheese and biscuits snacks had been opened. it has to be parents allowing kids to do so,” said a third.

“it’s a regular occurrence that customers help themselves to little things like this. If I find an open pkt of something like this I count the contents before putting them back on the shelf,” another commenter said.

Other commenters called out parents like this, labelling the trend careless and gross.

“it’s actually so gross what some parents let their kids do. At a play centre some kid grabbed some Doritos from next to the register and waddled over to his mum and handed them to her and she just opened them and gave them back to him. Like girl what!? I was like oh surely she will take the empty bag and scan it right? Nope just threw it away,” said one commenter.

“First it’s Doritos then it’s someone’s car. this is what happens when we teach kids it’s okay to steal.”

“it's literally stealing..if my kids try to open anything or take something just because it doesn't have a tag or not in the box, i tell them it is stealing! They put it back on the shelf very quick,” another agreed.
