Serena Williams confirms she's expecting second child with baby bump photo at Met Gala

As celebrities flocked to the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala, tennis great Serena Williams was ready to share some exciting news with her fans. 

Ahead of her entrance to the annual bash, the 41-year-old powerhouse, already mum to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, announced that she is expecting her second child with hubby Alexis Ohanian. 

"Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala," she shared on Instagram. 

The news was also shared with a series of snaps of her ready for the event, cradling her precious baby bump.

Serena's happy news has fans excited

Many fans were thrilled for Serena and her little family, and hit the comments section to wish them well. 

"Wait?!? Whaaattt?!!!! Amazing ! Congrats 🎉," one fan wrote. 

"Another little champion otw!🥰," another wrote. 

Others were a little confused about the cryptic caption, thinking that Serena might've been referring to her daughter. That was until they saw the bump shot!

"Wait a minute… is this an old pic? Are we having a new baby?" one person quizzed. 

"Omgggg congrats and here I am looking for the baby girl then I saw her holding her stomach awww," another confused fan cheered.

Serena says it's 'painful' to be apart from her daughter for work

In the past, Serena has admitted she struggles with being a working mum, saying she misses her daughter Olympia when she has to compete.

"I actually prefer playing in the day because I get to go home and see my baby," she said back in 2019. 

"I’ve been missing her the last few nights when I play. In the beginning she would really be upset when I left. And now she’s a little bit better. I think I’m a little more upset,'' she said.

"But at the same time, she definitely still takes it a little hard. She’s still super young."

"Sometimes my heart literally aches when I’m not around her.''
