International stars and Adelaide’s elite gathered for an exclusive party to kick off the LIV Golf event on Wednesday night.
Footy stars, Premier Peter Malinauskas and golf champions attended the party with disco balls and a DJ at Adelaide Oval with SA’s A-list gracing the red carpet.
Mr Malinauskas addressed the party ahead of the weekend’s tournament which is set to produce a lively atmosphere with music acts Birds of Tokyo and Electric Fields performing.
The cost of the lavish party was not covered by the State Government Mr Malinauskas said.
“That’s an expense worn exclusively by LIV.”
The Premier was impressed by the fanfare of the opening event.
“I don’t mind saying I had no idea what to expect going to that event … and it was extraordinary,” he said.
“I think in many respects it was a demonstration of how serious LIV is to this event and to what they’re doing in our state.”
Footy stars from Port Adelaide and the Crows lapped up the evening including Tex Walker, Lachlan Murphy, Jordan Dawson and Zak Butters.
Aussie team at the LIV Golf tournament Ripper GC was in attendance with international mullet-sporting golf icon Cameron Smith among them.
They were decked out in RM Williams gear including matching check shirts and black belts with navy pants.
Team Torque, including 21-year-old David Puig who turned pro last year, embraced the playful side of the event as they were fitted out with colourful black, white and blue patterned shirts.
Local SA produce and wine was on the menu for prominent international guests.
Food stations around the party were dedicated to SA’s regions such as Kangaroo Island with locally sourced whiting, oysters and lobster rolls.
Adelaide, the Limestone Coast, Eyre Peninsula and Adelaide Hills were also represented with local culinary treats.
Golf will start on Thursday with the Pro-Am event before the tournament.
Lucky golf fan and small business owner from Stonyfell, Pieter de Wit replaced Premier Peter Malinauskas who offered up his spot at the event.
The winner was chosen by The Advertiser in a fiercely competitive penalty shootout-style best-of-five putt-off on Monday and paired up with Cam Smith – see what his day was like here.
