A snake bite here and there is all in a days work for Darling Downs Snake Catcher 24/7 owner Gunter Glaser.
On Saturday night, Mr Glaser was called to a Withcott property, where a couple had found a python hiding in their pantry.
“It was pretty stressful for them, I told them to block it off by putting a towel under the door,” Mr Glaser said.
“Probably one in every four call outs we get is for a snake in the house.”
In footage posted to the Darling Downs Snake Catcher 24/7 Facebook page, Mr Glaser carefully tries to subdue the four foot carpet python tangled within the pantry, but it manages to swing around and nip him on the hand.
“You’ve got to remember to grab them around the neck,” Mr Glaser said.
“Carpet pythons often appear quite tame, so you have to be careful.
“The bite was deep enough to bleed, but I put some Dettol on it and usually I’m pretty right.”
Mr Glaser said he had determined the snake had entered the house through one of the doors, which the couple had left open for their cat.
“I always recommend that people put draft stoppers on their outside doors,” Mr Glaser said.
“A 2m python can squeeze through a one inch gap under a door – it’s amazing how squishy they are.
“When a snake is found inside, you often see gaps under the doors to the house.”
