'Who’s going to tell her?': Bridesmaid and groom share 'suspicious' hug at wedding

“The lingering finger touch, and then lift, is just suspicious…”

A groom and a bridesmaid have ignited a fierce debate online after their cute interaction was labelled “suspicious” by others.

Amy and Luke, a couple from Canada, recently tied the knot after years together, celebrating with those they loved the most.

But it was an interaction between Luke and Amy’s best friend and maid of honour, Shelby, that really got people talking - for all the wrong reasons.

In a now-viral video, the bridesmaids were undertaking an entertaining game with the groom.

“You assign your bridesmaids to surprise your husband with spicy Polaroids on your wedding day,” the caption read.

Shelby and the groom wrapped themselves in a bug hug, with the groom lifting the maid of honour off the ground before dropping her back down.

He was clearly excited and was a little befuddled when the bridesmaid handed him a photo in her hand. After he hugged the bridesmaid, he placed his hand on her hip, lingering there for a few seconds while she shook his hand.

Grabbing his arm, she placed a photo in his hand, seemingly encouraging him to take a peek.

At first, he seemed a little confused, but a few seconds later, he took a peek at the photo and did a double-take once he realised it was a saucy picture of his future wife.

Throughout the 47-second clip, other bridesmaids slowly passed him other “spicy” pictures of his bride, the groom becoming more flustered with every photo. He even received a picture from the bride herself, who couldn’t help but laugh as he saw the Polaroid.

But the viewers were stuck on the first interaction.

Naturally, the video went viral, racking up 12.7 million views and igniting a fierce debate about the groom and the maid of honour.

To many, the entire interaction looked “suspicious”, with some wondering if they were more to their relationship than meets the eye.

Rumours spread like a fire.

What was going on there? Why did the groom hug Shelby like that? Why was his hand lingering a little too long on her hip?

As people waited for Shelby to dispel the rumours, they made up backstories of their own: they were having an affair; secret feelings were brewing underneath the surface; they were actually brother and sister.

There were so many unanswered questions, which led Shelby and the bride, Amy, to share another video. Rather than dispelling the rumours and explaining the entire situation, they’ve decided to add fuel to the fire.

After replaying the hug in question, the best friends just turned to each other and rolled their eyes. “Who's gonna tell her?” the caption read.

Later, when someone asked if Shelby and Luke were brother and sister, she answered with an eye-roll emoji, so we can probably scrap that rumour entirely.

The girls are clearly in on the joke, so it has us thinking it was just a friendly interaction, nothing more.

“People are way overreacting”

Online, people couldn’t help but speculate about the “suspicious” hug, arguing that the groom was a little too close for comfort.

“He hugged her a lil too close,” a person noticed. “My brotherly hugs never look like this,” a woman added.

“Hand placement when he pulls away says it all,” read a comment. “The lingering finger touch, and then lift, is just suspicious,” said another.

“Listen, I’m sorry your wedding is being overshadowed by these bridesmaid’s speculations buuuut we really just need a hint of clarity that’s all,” a third wrote.

But to others, the entire situation was blown out of proportion.

“I really don’t see the huge deal,” someone reasoned. “He is excitedly hugging a good friend as they share in the joy of him getting married.”

“I just feel like he’s guiding her out of the way,” agreed another. “Everyone’s so messy and wants to make it more. It’s also the wedding, he’s just so excited.”

It was a perfectly platonic hug, others argued.

“My best friend’s long-term boyfriend has hugged me/touched me like that and it’s not that crazy,” a woman defended the group. “He loves my bestie lmao, no feelings for me in any way.”

“People are way overreacting,” someone said.
