The neighbours called the cops on my kids for an outrageous reason

"I’m super worried we’ll be on some list and I don’t want to lose my babies!"

My week of failures

Police have been called to a suburban Aussie neighbourhood over concerns about a pair of siblings.

Their crime

They were playing. Outside!

“My kids watch a lot of tv and I was giving them the option"

“It’s only the second day into the holidays and we just got a visit from the police saying one of our neighbours reported that they thought my kids were outside for an ‘excessive’ amount of time,” the mother said.

She took to a Reddit forum explaining the situation, which she found to be upsetting.

“I’m about to burst into tears,” she revealed.

“My kids watch a lot of tv and I was giving them the option today of either playing with physical toys or going outside and playing on the trampoline. They wanted to go outside mostly but were in and out of the house constantly.”

For the last six months the family has lived at the home with very little issues, and the mother is at a loss as to which neighbour may have dobbed them in.

The five and four-year-old play loudly and argue even louder.

“I also have to yell at them to stop now and then, but now I just feel so defeated and like a bad parent,” the mother stressed.

Even the cops were a little confused as to what they should do with the situation.

“The police said it was a bit of a weird one and they didn’t think we’d hear anything back and nothing would happen. They didn’t seem worried or ask to come inside at all,” she explains.

However, the knock at the door has left her understandably rattled.

“I’m super worried we’ll be on some list or something and I don’t want to lose my babies!” she stressed to the forum.

“It’s great to see children playing outside! It’s so healthy'

Commenters were quick to weigh in and reassure the mother.

“You really can't win, can you? People are either all 'kids never go outside these days, they're always inside on their devices, so sad' or 'kids are outside, better call the cops!' What a joke,” the top voted comment read.

“It’s great to see children playing outside! It’s so healthy for them. I’m sorry this happened to you. It’s ridiculous,” another agreed.

A third bluntly put it: “Your neighbour is a f**wit.”

The mother has since called for a follow up to see if the matter had been taken any further.

“The police officer was really nice and said that they noted the kids presented healthy and happy and it was closed off! I’m so relieved! They also said neighbours can just be a bit nosy so try not worry!” she explained.

However, to prevent any further disgruntled curtain twitching she has decided to write a letter for the mailboxes of the surrounding houses.

“I’ve asked if anyone has any issues to please speak to us first as we’ll try to resolve it with them. I also promised that in two weeks time my kids will go back to school, so peace and quiet will return!” she explained.
