Taylor Swift has posted a heartfelt message to say she is “in shock” after two children were killed and nine others injured at a school holiday dance class inspired by the singer.

In a handwritten note shared to her Instagram stories, Swift said she was at a loss after learning about the devastating stabbing attack that took place in the UK.

“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock,” she wrote.

“The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families and first responders.

"I am at a complete loss"

“These were just little kids at a dance class.

“I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”

The deadly attack happened at The Hart Space on 29 July, where at least 25 kids between the ages of six to eleven were taking part in a Swift-inspired holiday class that involved dance, yoga and bracelet making.

Two adults and six children are in a critical condition in hospital while other children sustained serious injuries in the knife attack.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested over the incident, after he was detained at the scene and a knife has been seized.

According to The Sun, a Yoga teacher named Leanne Lucas is understood to be one of the adults fighting for her life, while a fellow event organiser escaped uninjured after locking kids in a toilet to protect them.

Police were called to the venue in Southport, in north west England near Liverpool, on Monday morning local time with armed police quickly swarming the area and declaring a “major incident”.

Fans are raising money for victims and families

Swift fans have begun raising thousands of pounds for the victims families through crowdfunded online channels, one being ‘Swifties for Southport’ from Taylor Swift’ official UK and EU Facebook group who have already raised over 50,000 GBP ($100,000 AUD) for the Alder Hey children’s hospital charity.

On the Crowdfunding page a statement reads: “We are working with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to help raise money for the families affected by the tragedy in Southport, and raising funeral funds for the two young swifties who have tragically passed.

“Every donation through this link goes directly to the verified charity below, which will in turn help make a difference to those impacted in a time of great sadness.”

More to come.
