‘Speechless’: Sophie Cachia announces arrival of third child

Sophie Cachia has given birth to her third baby, five years after she split from her ex-husband, prompting the mum to reveal there is no father.

Sophie Cachia has announced that she welcomed her third child, a baby girl, describing it as her “dream experience”.

The high-profile Melbourne influencer turned AFLW WAG shared the exciting news on Thursday morning after undergoing intra-uterine insemination (IUI) last year.

“Esmé Sophie Shaw joined our world on 28 January at 5:58pm, watched over by her amazing big brother and sister,” the 34-year-old captioned her Instagram post, which included a series of photos from the hospital.

“My dream experience to have them there and now diving deep into my love bubble.”

The black-and-white images show Cachia cradling Esmé alongside her girlfriend, AFLW player Madison Prespakis, 24.

Her two other children, Bobby, 10, and Florence, seven, whom she shares with ex-husband Jaryd Cachia, were also present, smiling as they welcomed their new family member.

Her post quickly amassed 30,000 likes and was filled with well-wishes from friends and fans, many of whom declared they “love her name”.

“A big congratulations, lovely! How special. I love her name,” one said.

“Congratulations to you all! Love her name,” another user wrote.

“How fabulous and wonderful! Enjoy every moment, you beautiful soul!” a third user added.

“Oh, Soph! Such beautiful news, congratulations. You’re a phenomenal mum, look at your beautiful family,” a fourth supporter said.

The name Esmé originated in France and is derived from the Old French “esmer,” meaning “to esteem or value”.

It can be traced back to the medieval form of the name, Esmée, meaning it has a long and rich history.

Mia Freedman shared, “Mazeltov! Blessings for baby Esmé. What beautiful news” as Lana Wilkinson wrote, “Congratulations! This is the best! Love you guys.”

“Congrats, darling,” fellow WAG Bec Judd commented.

Prespakis also shared her own post, calling the moment “pure magic.”

“The best day of my life. Seeing my love birth her beautiful baby girl and finally having her in your arms was just a moment I want to replay forever,” she wrote in her heartfelt caption.

“I promise to love and protect you and your mumma forever. Mads loves you Essie girl.”

In July 2024, Cachia confirmed she was expecting her third child.

She underwent fertility treatment with an anonymous sperm donor and immediately the questions starting pouring in about who the dad was.

One follower asked her, “I’m so interested in your conception. Sperm donor? Jaryd? Plan to co-parent? Family parent? Not to be judgy, but to learn and then support! I completely respect your privacy.”

In November, she addressed the “invasive” speculation in an interview with Stellar and revealed that she considers herself a single mum.

“There is no dad,” she declared.

“It hasn’t been an easy process. It has come with a lot of sadness and fear. The reality of facing life as a single mum is something not many of us envision,” she continued.

“The way I see it, this child is mine and mine alone, and how that child was created or who contributed to that process is of no importance.”

She also dismissed the rumours that her ex-husband is the “father” of her unborn child, stating that they only share a solid co-parenting relationship.

“I actually found it quite funny and was able to laugh it off. But if anything, I’m like, ‘This poor guy has his own private life and has been dragged into my news,’” she shared.

“I wanted to clarify this because he deserves his privacy, which does not include my pregnancy. There is only one person in this world who knows anything about my donor profile, and that is my best friend.”
