‘Not a real man’: Dad slammed for ruining mum’s big moment

A viral video shows the man pushing his two kids into their mother’s way just before she runs over the finish line in a half marathon race.

Personal trainer Luciana Grandi Lourenção was seconds away from crossing the finish line of a half marathon race in Brazil when her husband did the unthinkable.

Standing metres away from the finish line of the Presidente Prudente Half Marathon, cheering Luciana on with their two young children, the dad encouraged the kids out into the path of the racers to congratulate their mum.

The problem was, Luciana hadn’t finished the race yet.

If you’ve ever done a big event – a running or cycling race, a long walk, anything that requires solid physical fitness, you’ll know it takes preparation.

There are months and months of grueling training runs, exercise, probably a careful diet devised for optimal running performance, Luciana was about to have her moment.

And her husband almost ruined it.

Husband lets kids run in front of wife finishing half marathon

A fellow competitor was hot on her heels when the kids ran out to hug their mum.

She nimbly dodged and raced across the finish line, shouting and throwing her fists up in the air in triumph.

The video has gone viral, and viewers are fuming that Luciana’s husband seemed to think she should choose her family over finishing the race she’d trained so hard for.

“This is a reallllly good example of the subtle way that some husbands treat their wives,” one person wrote.

“I can just hear him say, ‘I had to babysit the kids’ for an hour and 40 minutes and you couldn’t even stop to give them a hug?’” said another.

'She should call a divorce lawyer'

Many people were angry that her husband couldn’t let her moment.

“It’s like the men who propose at the moment of great individual success for a woman: finish line, graduations,” one person said.

“He couldn’t let her have that moment? She’s clearly worked hard for it. I’d have a divorce lawyer on the phone before the car got home,” was another person’s harsh take.

Others pointed out the husband’s seeming confusion in the aftermath.

“That intentional shrug he gives at the end like he doesn’t know why she wouldn’t have stopped,” one person said.

“A real man would have allowed his daughters to witness their mother being powerful and then treated her to a bath, massage and pampering when she got home from this incredible day for her!”
