'My mum blocked me over a World's Best Grandma mug'

"I’m not mad, by the way,” began the first "unhinged" passive-aggressive text.

When it comes to grandparent jealousy, one grandmother may have just taken the Crown of Pettiness.

A woman was left frustrated and bewildered after receiving a scathing late-night text from her mum, who had apparently been "social media stalking" her.

There, the grandma saw that her daughter had shared a Facebook post about two mugs she had gifted her dad (the grandma's ex) and his new wife.

The mugs read “Best Grandma Ever” and “Best Grandpa Ever,” with the post celebrating the couple on Grandparents’ Day.

"I'm the one who has been there for your child"

The kicker? The post was from September 2024, and had been posted by the new wife.

But that didn’t stop the grandmother from deciding it was an urgent matter - and so she began a middle-of-the-night confrontation.

“How can you send your dad and stepmum ‘Best Grandparents’ stuff and post it all over social media, when I’m the one who has been there for your child, teaching her how to sit up, roll over, and crawl?” she rage-texted.

The message shocked the woman, who later shared the exchange on Reddit for advice.

“I don’t know who’s right and who’s wrong,” she admitted.

“I’m 23, a single parent, and my mum has always helped when I needed childcare. I thought I had always shown her I appreciated her, but I guess she needs more reassurance.”

Trying to clarify, the woman explained that her dad had specifically asked for the mugs, as he had been struggling with health issues.

“It was a $5 mug. If I’d known you cared about these little made-up holidays, I would’ve gotten you something too. I didn’t plan on getting anyone anything. Why are you stalking my Facebook all night anyway?"

But the grandma doubled down, insisting that her feelings were about more than just the mug.

“You may not have posted it, but you sure went out of your way to make them happy. I’m not mad, by the way,” she wrote - before contradicting herself with a lengthy list of grievances:

  1. "Why would you uplift people socially who don’t contribute to your child’s well-being?"
  2. "I don’t care about the f**king cup—it’s the principle. I’ve been a way better grandparent than them."
  3. "Why would you turn this into an attack on me and say I was ‘stalking’ just to deflect?"
  4. "I don’t feel you ever appreciate anything I do."

"Childish, unhinged, jealous"

The daughter, exasperated, called out her mum's jealousy and pointed out that a face-to-face conversation would have been a far better way to handle the situation.

Commenters on the forum were appalled by the grandma's behaviour.

“Are you sure you’re not also your mum's parent? This is the most childish, unhinged, jealous rant I’ve ever seen from an adult,” one person wrote.

“She sure as hell ain't acting like the world's best anything right now,” another added.

“Does she think the cups are trophies or some s**t?” a third joked.

The woman then revealed that she has now been blocked by her mum.

“Any opportunity to make things about her, she takes it,” the daughter reflected.
