Mum's bizarre hack to keep baby amused on plane

Cos parents will try anything at 30,000 feet!

When it comes to keep babies quiet on the plane, parents will do just about anything.

Dummies, toys, iPads.

But one mum has changed the game with potentially the cheapest hack of all time.

Who needs toys when you’ve got romaine?

“If you don’t pack a head of lettuce for your next flight for your baby, what are you even doing?” new mum Lala asks.

The influencer has one viral with a TikTok, suggesting a travel hack we doubt many parents have thought of before.

It was her 8-month-old daughter’s first time on a plane and Lala wanted to board totally prepared.

Luckily, they managed to time the flight perfectly with her nap, which is a big tick already.

“She slept right through takeoff, but eventually she woke up,” Lala said.

So... Now what?

At home during meal times, the little one is often given a piece of lettuce to keep occupied.

Turns out it works in transit too.

“I thought if it works at home, why would it not work on a plane?" Lala explained.

“We were on the plane for almost three hours. I packed a whole head just in case.”

Cos Why Not?

Lala said the baby girl loves to tear things.

She loves to rip into bread (which is a little too messy for a plane) and paper (but they need to ensure none of that winds up in her mouth)

Which makes lettuce the perfect option. It’s safe, healthy, has a fun texture and perfect for working on developmental skills.

“This kept her occupied almost the entire flight. She had so much fun,” Lala said.

Unsurprisingly, the comment section popped off.

“YOU WERE BORN TO BE A MUM!” one person exclaims.

“I have a 14 hour flight with my baby next month. I’ll just bring a whole field,” another agrees.

A third praised: “you are such smart parents!”

The best part? It’s entirely mess free!

“When it’s time to clean up, you can just eat it,” Lala shared.

“This what I’m not only entertaining my baby, but I’m also getting my greens in.”

It might not make it into the official travel essentials list anytime soon, but desperate times calls for creative mums.

Is this even allowed?

In Australia, passengers are generally allowed to bring solid foods onboard, including fresh produce like lettuce.

However, some states and territories enforce strict biosecurity laws that limit the transport of fruits and vegetables across borders to prevent the spread of pests and diseases. For instance, fresh produce is banned from entering South Australia from other parts of the country.

If you're travelling, it's best to eat it during the flight or dispose of it before landing in a state with restrictions.

You should always check the rules for your destination ahead of time.
