I'm so glad my daughter won't remember her first birthday party

"I spent $350 on food... it was devastating."

I spent $350 on my 1yo's party and no one showed up

A mum on TikTok has shared her heartbreak after she spent nearly $400 on food for her one-year-old's birthday party - and only one person showed up.

The woman, Aaliyah, said she went all out for her little girl's mermaid-themed bash, inviting guests and decking out a hall with banners and balloons.

However, Aaliyah's partner was the only person to come.

"Blood is not thicker than water"

Taking to TikTok wearing a 'mummy of the birthday mermaid t-shirt', she asked, "How do you react when nobody shows up to your daughter's party?

"Except for your BOYFRIEND?"

She then shows her daughter, dressed in a mermaid outfit and sitting in her pram while the boyfriend packs up tables and chairs around her.

There were at least five large trestle tables, to give you an indication of how many guests they were expecting...

She then wrote, "$350 worth of food. My boyfriend's family is eating goooood tonight," while showing the many trays of uneaten food including chicken pieces and salad.

The caption read: "This is the support system I have for my daughter. Happy Birthday my 'lil mermaid!! Remember blood is not thicker than water. I'm so glad she won't remember this."

"I actually can't stand the thought of a child in this position!"

Cue collective tears from the TikTok commenters.

One user wrote, "That hurt my heart."

"I've never once not showed up to a party my daughter has been invited to. I actually can’t stand the thought of a child in this position!" chimed in a second.

And another person shared the long-lasting damage this can do to a child, saying: "No one showed up to my seventh birthday party and I remember it 10 years later, I wish no one has to go through this ever."

Then other users called out 'entitled' parents, saying, "I don't understand this generation of parents. When my kids are invited to a kid's party, they're as important as a wedding/important meeting. I show up and celebrate the child," one mum wrote.

Another agreed, saying, "Do you remember when we were kids? We went to EVERY party... even when we didn’t want to go. Mum made us go AND bring a gift even when we couldn’t afford it."

Meanwhile, this user shared that they try and make an effort to go to every party they're invited to, "even if it's just for an hour."

And finally, someone else reassured the mum: "I would’ve come to her party! Me and my baby would have been there. I'm sorry this happened to you."
