So the fam has scare-normous plans to decorate the home that’ll leave the summer Xmas lights for dead.
But then life happens and suddenly Halloween is the day after yesterday and not a string of skeleton bunting has gone up yet.
Not to worry as there are always spook-fully easy crafts that a sorcerer’s apprentice can whip up quickly.
Let’s get started by turning a jar into an atmospheric silhouette lantern. And when you’re done you can set up the lantern in the window, or out in the garden.

What you need
- Glass jar
- LED candlelight pack
- Purple transparent sheet
- Black acrylic pen

Note
For the transparent sheet, I upcycled a plastic scrapbook cover. You may also colour cellophane for a similar effect.
Activity
Use a black acrylic pen to illustrate a Halloween-themed silhouette on the surface of a clear glass jar. The image can be a spooky landscape or a creepy face.
Roll a purple transparent sheet into a cylinder and slide into the glass jar.
Switch on a pack of LED candle lights, and place them inside the jar.
Place a lid on the jar.
