Nurse accused of ‘raping 15yo stepson’ sentenced

A Florida nurse who told her 15-year-old victim "I wish you were 18" has learnt her fate for sexually abusing her stepson.

The US nurse whose husband walked in and caught her sexually abusing his 15-year-old son has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Alexis Von Yates, 34, was officially sentenced on Tuesday after she pleaded no contest last month to a charge of lewd and lascivious battery.

She accepted a plea deal after initially being charged with sexual battery on a person aged between 12 and 18 years.

She appeared in court with a full face of makeup, a modest black turtleneck, and her hair sleek and straight with a middle part.

It was a stark contrast to the image Von Yates projected on social media, which featured leopard print bikinis, gold hoop earrings, sheer skirts, and her heavily tattooed arms and stomach on display.

The former nurse, who lost her medical licence after the sexual abuse allegations emerged, was caught “red-handed” in the act by her husband, Frank, last July.

Speaking to the court, the biological mother of the boy called Von Yates an “incestuous pedophile”, a “coward”, and said what she did to her son made her feel “ill”.

As the heartbroken mother spoke, Von Yates’ stony face grimaced, especially when she claimed the sex offender had boasted about receiving such a light sentence.

After the mother was questioned about her son, who she said is in therapy, she revealed that his father had only spoken to him once in the last year.

“I will be by his side to support him, just as I always have. But it is not fair that I am the only one left to pick up the pieces of the mess Alexis created,” she said.

“I am angry, I am hurt, at times it makes me physically ill. But I, like (my son), will rise above.

“Despite all of the trauma inflicted upon him, he still has a beautiful life to look forward to. A life full of love, hope and endless possibilities.

“As for you Alexis, you have shown absolutely no remorse or accountability for your despicable actions.”

The mother also claimed that Von Yates had openly boasted about her two-year light sentence.

“But there is something you will never escape, the deep well emptiness inside of you. The lack of compassion, or love, or care,” the mother continued.

“You systemically manipulated, groomed, and sexually abused a child. Through your actions, and through your conduct, you have proven to be a coward.

“There is nowhere you can go to escape the truth. For the rest of your life, the world will see you for exactly what you are.

“An incestuous pedophile who will forever only be remembered for what she took from a child.”

The teen boy also addressed the court, but the audio has not been released due to an order from the judge.

Von Yates kept her eyes glued to the ground as he spoke.

When asked if she wanted to make a statement to the court, Von Yates said she had “no comment” before being led away, fingerprinted and handcuffed.

She will spend two years in prison, followed by two years of community supervision and 10 years of sex offender probation.

She will also have to complete 200 hours of community service, pay court costs and fines.

An investigation was launched after police received an anonymous tip in July 2024 – just days after the alleged sexual abuse occurred – that included information indicating the child’s father had walked in on the incident.

It was alleged that Von Yates abused her stepson while he was visiting his father’s home in Florida over summer.

On the night of the alleged incident, she reportedly put her two children to bed before spending time with her 15-year-old stepson in the living room, according to court documents.

The pair reportedly used a THC vape – a compound found in cannabis plants – and played video games together and watched movies.

But at around 1am, the stepmother put on a horror movie and is alleged to have “seduced” the minor — claiming the movie was boring and saying how “horny” she was, the New York Post reported.

In statements to the police, the boy claimed she told him she was sexually frustrated because “she had not had sex in two weeks and she was on her period”.

The pair then cuddled before progressing to mouth contact. At this point, it is claimed Von Yates allegedly told the boy: “I wish you were 18, because you’re not old enough”.

Von Yates then removed her underwear before sexual contact took place, according to the affidavit.

About this time, Frank came home from work and is alleged to have found his wife and son on the couch, completely naked.

But the boy says they didn’t stop, with Frank walking in and shouting, “What the f**k’ is going on?” at the sight, MailOnline reported.

He is then said to have started throwing objects, before calling Von Yates a “c***” and accusing her of being a “child predator”.

The 15-year-old ran out of the house but allegedly heard Von Yates tell his father that his son looked just like him “when he was younger”, according to the original affidavit.

The boy is three years below the legal age of consent in Florida where the incident took place.

Von Yates’ nursing registration was immediately suspended after her arrest on November 6 2024.
