Parents, be warned. There's an item that will be on your tween and teen's radar (if not already) and I'm sorry to say it, but it's gonna cost you a bomb just like those giant emotional support water bottles.

The 2025 school year is about to bring in a new craze - frank green's new range of lunch boxes.

Yes. To answer your question, they're the ones that got our kids hooked on the expensive water bottles. And yes, you should be worried.

The lunch box every teen and tween will want in 2025

"Lunch is getting an upgrade," is the subject line of the store's newsletter announcing the new offering.

The new line-up of food storage includes a lunch box complete with two removable inserts and available in a range of beautiful colours.

And it's an upgrade, indeed!

One container with the above mentioned will set you back a hefty $79.95! And that's not all.

To make it a little more practical, you have the option of adding on an ice brick for $9.95, a bumper guard for $24.95, and if you're after making it a little bit more fancy, monogramming is also available for $9.95. Oh, you want an insulated lunch bag to put it in? No worries, that's another $79.95.

Now, I'm not very good at maths but add it all together for what will make up the usual set-up for most kids' lunch boxes at school, and that comes to a total of $204.75!

......

......

Are you ok? Here, let me help you get off the floor!

OK, wait. To make you feel better, you don't HAVE to get the monogramming done. So it's more like $194.80. Is that better?

OF COURSE IT'S BLOODY NOT!!! Because most Aussies will tell you that four years on and we've still not quite recovered from the global pandemic and in the middle of a cost of living crisis.

The parents are not OK

As the news begins to leak, parents are sitting back anxiously waiting for their children to come home and request these items get put on their back to school lists.

"OMG no! I narrowly escaped the giant water bottle craze. Not this again! They're going to be so unpopular if they don't get one. Those poor kids who can't afford items like this," one mum told Kidspot.

"I am sick of how expensive simple necessities are becoming in the name of “status”. I feel the same way about Stanley water bottles. It’s ridiculous," another mum shared.

"A child who still takes a packed lunch to school does not need it in an $80 container," another parent insisted.

And the no's just kept on coming.

"Nope, $80 for a lunch box is not in my budget. I don't see the value, especially as you need to buy add-ons just to keep it from being scratched. What happened to taking lunch in a brown paper bag."

“If I’m giving my kid an $80 lunchbox for school, I’ll be putting a hold on their pocket money for loss or damage, like hotels do!”

Even some who don't even have kids were nervous about the trend impacting their own generation (we see you Gen Z!)

"Hard no just getting the $5 or $10 ones — better yet I'll just buy the lunch and save on effort and space or wait until the trend dies and they end up at Vinnies or Kmart releases a dupe."

What's so special about frank green's lunch boxes?

Of course you're not going to be buying these items just so your kid can follow a trend... are you? Maybe you are. But if you're wanting to know what justifies such a high price tag, all the good stuff is broken down on the product description listed on the website.

"With its spacious, separate and leak-resistant compartments, you’ll never have to share your leftovers with the bottom of your bag again!" it reads.

"Made from 90% post-consumer recycled stainless steel and paired with premium silicone lids, this newcomer will make transporting food a breeze and turn heads in every breakroom."

What's more, the design promises to be leak-free, soft to touch, engineered to last, and the inserts are microwave-safe.

Now you be the judge on how much all of that is worth.
