Mum’s viral hack for reducing washing up is pure genius

A mum has gone viral on TikTok for sharing her genius hack for reducing dirty dishes saving you time washing up. 

 

TikTok mumfluencer Hadlee Daines says the simple trick promises to also save you money as you don’t need to buy expensive paper plates or go through as many pricey dishwasher tablets.

"Less dishes and cheaper than paper plates"

The tip is to switch your regular plates with reusable food baskets - you know the ones you get burgers and chips in at pubs? Yeah, those. 

Then she just pops some food basket liners on top (aka greaseproof paper) and serves the meal in that.

When the kids have finished, they can just toss the paper in the recycling bin and stack the baskets, ready to be used again. The paper liners mean that the basket stays totally clean, so that's why there's no rinsing required!

Daines’ clip has been viewed over 20 million times and it’s easy to see why, it’s cheap, simple and seems to work well. 

In the video, she demonstrates the two-step process, calling it the “best mum hack”. x

She also adds that her “kids love it because they feel like they’re eating at a restaurant!”

"The planet is crying"

While many praised the mum for her easy tip to help cut back on kitchen work, haters called it out for being lazy and wasteful. 

“...or maybe just wash a plate? 😂 Reusable and no waste. 🤷🏽‍♀️” the top comment with 12.7k likes said. 

“The planet is crying because of your actions,” slammed another.

“It’s not that hard to put a few plates in a dishwasher instead of using single-use plastics unnecessarily every day, 😭” wrote someone else. 

But then others clapped back saying, “Everyone who is saying this is wasteful- it’s actually not. You can reuse the plastic baskets and don’t have to wash them. And, you can get biodegradable paper.”

Another said: “This is awesome and cute presentation.”

“I’m doing this in my house actually so cute,” a different woman chimed in.

“Swear it makes food taste better too 😂,” this mum admitted.

Then one comment said: “Quite ashamed I never thought of this sooner. 😩”

“This is genius, it’s fun for kids and they are more likely to finish their meal,” a different user commented.

“This is actually really smart. Kids are always growing and hungry and making tons of dishes. Great solution!” another concluded.
