Kmart brings back Kodak film cameras after Gen Z popularity

It was a trend many thought faded away when phone cameras improved quality but Kmart has brought back Kodak fim cameras to shelves.

Gen Z is bringing back one item many people thought they’d seen the last of, with Kmart selling film cameras once again.

The Kodak M35 35mm film reusable camera comes in black and lilac, with a price tag of $35.

However, there is also the Kodak single use camera with a 27 exposure that has a price tag of $22.

One TikTok user, known on the platform as @myaffordablefinds, posted a clip of the $39 camera to their social media account.

“Run to Kmart,” text read over the video.

“The film camera era is back”.

Many social media users - who once had a camera just like it during their own youth - were shocked at the price point.

“OMG the price - they use to be $5,” one social media user said.

Another added: “In the 90s they were $10 at Kmart.”

Others were eager to try and get their hands on the camera though.

One social media user said they were sold on the pink version of the Kodak product but another joked they had “already done this era”.

One TikTok user commented on the clip: “I don’t need too I still have one.”

“Gen Z eat this junk up,” another said.

One added: “Save your money and look through your parents cupboards for one.”

Others reported buying the cameras for as much as $75 at other business.

Guy Barel, Kmart Family Tech Buyer, told news.com.au: “Gen Z’s are definitely loving the 35mm film and camera category!

“The Kodak disposable camera has been incredibly popular.”

Supermodel Gigi Hadid made the yellow Kodak disposable camera a must have item a handful of years ago, with other digital cameras with small display screens quickly following suit.

At a party for Rolla’s jeans last year, one young woman called the digital camera “retro as f**k”.

“Well, this one’s actually my great grandfather’s,” Jade Myriam, a 24-year-old stylist, said about the silver rectangular camera she was holding at the Rolla’s party.
