Inmates’ ‘feral’ act as women sunbake by pool adjacent to prison

Prisoners in a high-rise detention centre have been filmed behaving inappropriately towards women sunbaking at a nearby pool.

Horrifying footage of inmates catcalling women using a nearby pool overlooked by the prison has sparked anger online.

Miami’s “luxury” Downtown 5th apartments feature twin 52-storey towers and boast two swimming pools, a spa and a state-of-the-art fitness centre.

Despite costing between $2600 and $6000-a-month to rent a unit in the high-end residence, there’s one major issue: it’s right next door to a high-rise US federal prison.

Since opening in 2021, people living in the complex have shared videos exposing the reality of living next door to a bunch of rowdy criminals.

Spoiler alert: it’s not great, especially if you’re a woman.

One resident recently amassed millions of views on a series of videos that detailed what it is really like “living next to a prison”, with the clips leaving viewers as fascinated as they were horrified.

“Their yard faces our pool on the 15th floor, so they will literally be, like, whistling and catcalling the girls,” the TikTok user, who posts under the handle @supjesuss, shared.

But while he said his living with criminal neighbours was “not the worst” thing in the world – adding he finds the signs loved ones leave for inmates on the pavements outside “cute” – many were disturbed by the inmates’ actions.

In one viral video shared by resident Ryan Rea, the prisoners were filmed shouting at bikini-clad women using their pool, which some described as “horrible” and “gross”.

“I would literally never use the pool,” one remarked.

“This is so horrible, don’t they get in trouble for leering?” another asked.

As one declared: “Don’t understand why you’d ever move in.”

“Feral behaviour,” another raged.

However, @supjesuss claimed the women “pose” for the men, alleging they “love” the attention.

Catcalling isn’t the only problem the residents face from the inmates at The Federal Detention Center, which is known to house both men and women who have committed various crimes within the state.

Residents have also complained about the noise coming from the building, which includes shouting, squeaking and even music.

“I don’t use the pool that much here because it doesn’t get sun very much, but it does get sun during the time that they’re in there,” Mr Rea, a resident of the luxury apartment building told Local 10 last July.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons said it was investigating the issue, but was unable to share details due to “safety and security reasons”.

“The issue presented in the video is under investigation and we are actively pursuing a solution that both addresses the concern of the public and is in accordance with American Correctional Association guidelines,” a spokesperson told the outlet at the time.
