'I thought it was okay': QLD woman kicked out of café for 'entitled' act

After trying to justify her behaviour online, the cafe owners clapped back, saying she "should have known" she'd get booted for it.

Woman kicked out of a cafe and sparks heated discussion on etiquette

Social media influencer and business owner Karina Irby was unexpectedly kicked out of a Gold Coast cafe this week when she attempted to conduct an impromptu photoshoot.

The 34-year-old body-positive advocate documented her and her friends' arrival at Palm Springs Cafe in Burleigh Heads in an Instagram story.

Without a prior booking, they began filming an ad with a professional photographer for Irby’s activewear line.

The influencer's justification

In the clips, Irby said that she thought the venue would be accommodating because she had purchased some cake and coffee from them.

"I thought I could order a bunch of yummy food and drinks, eat, and have the girls representing Moana Smile Club at this local cafe," she explained.

However, the cafe staff were not pleased and immediately asked her and her friends to leave.

"We were asked not to shoot there and got kicked out of the cafe," a visibly upset Irby shared with her followers.

The cafe clapped back

However, contrary to Irby's account, Palm Springs Cafe owners Cohen and Josh offered a different perspective.

Speaking to Daily Mail, they stated that Irby was not "asked to leave" but was advised to schedule and book the shoot at a more appropriate time.

"We don't allow professional photoshoots during business hours out of respect for our guests. However, we hire our space out for professional shoots, it is a service we offer," Cohen clarified.

"All that was said is that if you have a professional photographer, you need to book a time for the shoot," they added.

The cafe owners also noted, "Someone of her stature should have known that as she has a successful company. She told us she reached out to us and tried to book it in, but we are on top of our emails and socials, and that never happened."

Despite the initial setback, Irby later informed her fans that the rest of the photoshoot went smoothly as a local resident allowed them to complete the rest of it at their home.
