A 24-year-old has revealed how she ditched her full time administration role and still makes $10,000 a month.

Amy Coulston, from the Sunshine Coast, was working in a remote administration role for a car dealership in New South Wales making $83,000 a year — including bonuses — before tax.

But, she has now ditched this job and is exclusively working in side hustles, saying she has been looking for extra ways to make money since she was a teenager.

“I have been doing side hustles for almost all of my adult life, I needed them to help make ends meet in my university days,” she told news.com.au.

“But I remember being 15/16 and looking for ways to make money online and wishing I was old enough to sign up to all of the sites I use today, so it’s always been something I’ve been interested in doing.”

How Aussie, 24, quit full time work for side hustles

Initially, it started with freelancing on Airtasker, such as picking up items and proofreading assignments before moving onto other side hustles such as market research and surveys.

When she started full-time, she was trying to get in an hour or two during work days and up to five hours on the weekend. She also started up a TikTok account — @amy.coul — where she documents how much she earns and from what.

She started posting more than a year ago after seeing people in the US do the same, but realised no one was sharing platforms where Aussies could make a bit of extra cash.

Now, she gets messages daily from people sharing when they make their first $100 from sites she recommends.

Recently, she made $10,000 in a month from her side hustles — something she’d been aiming towards for a long time.

“When I finally hit it, I was absolutely thrilled. It felt like such a massive goal so I was definitely shocked to see that number on the screen at the end of the month,” Ms Coulsen said.

“Sharing all of the sites I use on social media absolutely has a massive impact on that number, and I never want to shy away from that fact.

“A lot of the sites I use offer referral programs that give me 30 cents to $1 when someone signs up through me, so that obviously helps a lot.”

She said she also has some brand deals with different side hustle companies that pay her to share their sites, saying this allows her to try our different sites and only recommend ones she thinks is worth it.

It’s allowed her to ditch her full-time role so she can solely focus on her side huste work, saying she made the move after being able to match her full time income for six months.

“The thought of being able to work for myself has always been a dream of mine and it felt attainable so I just took the leap,” she said.

“I started by dropping from five days a week to four at my job and noticed a large jump in side hustle income so finally decided to go out on my own.

“It’s been less than a week since I officially finished at my job but it’s already been such a freeing feeling being able to decide when and where I work.”

Now, she is trying to continue building her income and match the $10,000 months that she has been having while also having the freedom to work around what she enjoys doing.

“I’m working a lot on my side hustles every day, but it’s in the hours that I want to which is amazing to be able to choose and have that flexibility in my schedule,” she said.

“It’s given me so much more time to try out new sites. I’m constantly searching for new ones so now that I have more time I’m able to start going through my list more quickly.”

She said her favourite side hustle currently is market research, particularly when she is getting paid to give her opinion on products she’d likely buy in the future. It’s also one of the highest paying roles when it comes to hourly rate.

Amy understands there may be a dozen reasons why people are hesitant to try out side hustles, saying it often comes down to the misconceptions.

She said one of the biggest misconceptions is that people need to have a big understanding about technology to be able to do them

“Most of the sites I use are just super easy apps that anyone can use! For things like market research, they specifically want people with no real knowledge about the product most of the time so they can get the general populations opinion,” she said.

“Another one I hear a lot is that people think it’s going to take too much time to start a side hustle, when really you can find something to suit most peoples lifestyles.”
