Shopper reveals ‘secret’ Bunnings policy about dead plants

A Bunnings shopper is spreading the word about a “secret” policy that allows people to return dying and dead plants.

A social media influencer who spreads the word about “surviving the cost of living crisis” has rediscovered a useful “hack”.

The black thumbs among us can rejoice — it’s a Bunnings policy that allows for the return of dying and dead plants.

The policy has been around for years but is gaining renewed interest after a viral social media post by Jessica Redolfi.

Spruiking it as a “secret” policy that Bunnings “doesn’t want you to know”, she reminded Aussie shoppers that Bunnings guarantees all its plants for 12 months under its “perfect plant promise”.

Jessica Redolfi posted the video to spread awareness about the policy.

You can return plants to Bunnings under the policy.

“Hey Bunnings, I bought a bunch of plants a few months ago and they all died over summer. Can I please get a refund?,” Jessica said in the tongue-in-cheek skit.

“According to your policy, if I buy a plant and it dies within 12 months I can return it and get a free refund, as long as it’s not a seedling or a potted colour.”

It turns out you can, as long as you have a receipt.

The Bunnings returns web page further explains that the policy does not apply to those plants because they are short-lived and not expected to live for more than three to five months in the garden.

Jessica’s clip gained a lot of attention on TikTok.

One person wrote: “We bought heaps of plants for our daughter’s 21st birthday party at our house. We brought them all back after the party.”

Another added: “yeah. I did this. what they don't tell you is about how embarrassing it is standing at the refund counter with a dead tree.”

Others were quick to point out the policy is not new.

“Bunnings have publicly shared this policy many times … it’s not a secret,” one wrote.

“There is a giant sign at Bunnings … telling you about this policy,” another added.

The video’s popularity is proof that lots of Aussies are looking to save money due to the cost of living crisis after inflation skyrocketed 2022 and the fastest interest rates rise in decades.
