A beloved dog has been stolen from her home in Fullerton, a suburb in Adelaide’s inner south, and her owner is appealing for help from the public.
Flossie, an eight-year-old red toy poodle, was taken after an intruder forced entry to her house on Tuesday. She’s a small dog, weighing just 3.5 kilograms.
Anyone with information about her whereabouts is being urged to contact police. Should you come across her, you can also take her to a vet, where she can be microchipped and returned to her family.
“She’s a nervous dog, but she’s also a very sweet, inquisitive and loving dog,” said her owner, academic Ann-Louise Hordacre.
Dr Hordacre returned home from work at about 1pm, local time, on Tuesday to find that her home’s alarm was on.
“I actually have two dogs, one is thankfully still here. I came home and noticed that my alarm was on. Sometimes the dogs set it off, so I wasn’t overly worried,” she said.
However one of the gates outside her home was open, which was “very unusual”.
“Someone obviously climbed over one of the gates into my backyard, kicked in or smashed my laundry door, came in – the alarm would have gone off – and they took Flossie.”
As far as Dr Hordacre has been able to tell, the culprit took nothing else.
“Obviously my first thing was to search the house,” she explained.
“A friend came and checked the house as well, because I was in shock, and she’s not here. And my other dog would have told me where she was.
“It was confusing enough that she wasn’t at the door to greet me. She’s always the first one. But then the laundry door was smashed, so that’s when I really started to panic.”
She noted that, if Flossie was taken and then released, “she would come back”.
Dr Hordacre contacted the police and made a report. News.com.au has contacted South Australia Police for comment.
