Foods that are weight loss friendly

GIVE yourself a helping hand in the weight loss stakes by adding these foods to your diet.

Fibre-rich foods

A study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that increasing fibre intake by 8 grams for every 1000 calories consumed assisted in weight loss. Fibre-rich foods such as beans, brown rice, oats and berries contain no calories but help keep you full. If you fill up on healthy foods, you’re less likely to have an appetite for less nutritious options.

Fruits and vegetables

It’s a given that fruits and vegetables are a must for good nutrition but did you know that as fruit and veg are also high in water content they may also aid in weight loss by helping to keep you full which means you’re less likely to overeat.

Eggs

Protein and healthy fats are both great for satiety, and as eggs are not only high in both but also incredibly nutrient-dense, it’s only a given that you should incorporate them into your diet to assist in keeping your appetite in check. Eggs also contain a hormone called glucagon which aids in fat burning. Why not add eggs to your daily breakfast to help keep those midmorning munchies at bay.

Chilli

Chilli not only induces thermogenesis which converts food into heat (this means you’re burning up calories rather than storing it as fat) but a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition has found that chilli also helps to curb appetite. Researchers found that eating foods containing chilli helped test subjects feel less hungry and eat less in the subsequent meals that followed.

Almonds

Almonds are the ideal on the go snack. Snacking on these bite-sized treats of nutty goodness have been found to help keep you satiated during the day, but not only that, they’re rich in fibre and protein which are both essential weight loss aids.

Green tea

Switch out your daily cuppa for green tea to help with weight loss. Studies have found that green tea speeds up your metabolism and helps you burn more calories. Double win!

Greek yoghurt

Traditional Greek yoghurt is a great weight loss aid. It contains twice the amount of protein as normal yoghurts which means it will help you stay satisfied for longer but it’s also a great source of calcium, potassium, zinc and vitamins B6 and B12.
