THE Queensland Government has announced an additional $2.3 million to improve road safety in the Darling Downs.
The additional funding is part of the government's $900 million investment in road safety across Queensland over the next four years.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the funding would go towards upgrading pedestrian and motorist safety at three identified crash hot spots.
"These are roads that have a high risk of crashes," he said.
"The upgrades will include road widening, improved signage and audio tactile line-marking. This is about delivering cost-effective, high-benefit solutions to improve safety for everyone that uses these roads," he said.
Mr Bailey said the rate of fatalities in Queensland was the lowest since records began. In 2018-19 the rate of fatalities was 4.51 per 100,000 people.
There was $1.1 million allocated to upgrade the New England Highway, north of Cooyar between September and November, $260,000 to upgrade the Cunningham Highway and Yangan Road intersection in Warwick between October and December and $1 million to improve the Gatton-Helidon Rd and Gatton-Clifton Rd intersection at Lower Tenthill between September 2020 and June 2021.
