Fury as fitness influencers ‘make fun’ of male gymgoer’s workout

Two female fitness influencers have gone viral for all the wrong reasons after their video “copying the weird man in the gym” left people disgusted.

Fitness instructors' unthinkable act

Two female fitness influencers have angered followers after mocking a fellow gymgoer in a video many have labelled “disgusting”.

The women, who go by the handles @fit.berna and @fitmitdebbs, uploaded a video titled: “Copying the weird man in the corner of the gym.”

In the clip, the fitness fanatics from Germany could be seen in hysterics as they mimicked the man’s movements who was working out with his back turned to them, leaving him clueless to what was unfolding behind him.

It didn’t take long for outraged internet users to call out the pair for “making fun” of an innocent gymgoer, arguing it was a “disgusting” display for attention.

“These two girls are making fun of a guy who was just working out. Let’s make them famous,” the clip, reshared by @djtimomusic, read.

In the video, the girls can be seen copying the man, who is performing an array of warm-up movements while wearing a red T-shirt.

At one stage they point at him and laugh hysterically, while later on in the short video, they collapse in a heap as they re-enact him lunging.

Many in the comments section expressed their shock and horror at the TikTok video, noting how funny both participants found mocking the man’s movements.

“Such gross behaviour from grown women. Gag,” one wrote.

“It’s people like that, that make the gym a scary, unachievable place for others,” another noted.

As one raged: “They are trying their best. I have no idea why they think this is so hilarious?”

It didn’t take long for others to share the clip, giving their own commentary and thoughts on the “disgusting” video.

“What are you doing making fun of people in the gym? This is the exact reason why people are scared to go to the gym. You are the reason why some people are intimidated by the fitness community,” TikTok user @haussdrama said.

“As a person who has been bullied since the age of 10, that kind of behaviour is unacceptable,” another woman, who posts as @astoldbyjazz_97, said.

While TikTok creator @noah_bermudez3 said: “What did I just witness here? These two wannabe influencers legit pointing and laughing at this guy minding his business. Look at her face. They somehow thought it was a good idea to set up a tripod and film themselves copying him?”

One bloke argued the video proved just how wild the world in 2023 had become, stating “attention is oxygen” to the younger generations as a result of social media.

Others noted it was interesting it was two women behind the apparent “gym bullying”, stating it was usually females who felt “uncomfortable” at the gym.

A 2021 study found that 76 per cent of women feel uncomfortable exercising in public due to harassment, The Guardian reported earlier this year.

Almost 56 per cent of women said they had faced harassment during their workouts, a survey from Run Repeat found last year.

Calling out inappropriate gym behaviour has become a viral phenomenon in recent months, with the hashtags #GymCreep and #GymWeirdo clocking up over 100 million views since it emerged, the BBC reported in February. This figure is likely to have grown tremendously since.

But this recent event proves it’s not just women who face intimation in the gym, though it’s still overwhelmingly females who cop it.

The official Facebook page for @fitmitdebbs is currently being flooded with streams of negative reviews.

“Absolutely would never rely on a trainer that feels it’s acceptable to make fun of others trying to better themselves,” one reads.

“Rude and disrespectful towards others in the gym with her friend @fit.berna” another states.

Neither @fit.berna or @fitmitdebbs have responded to the widespread criticism, but both have since made their TikTok and Instagram accounts private.
