Fans spot something unusual about Matthew Perry's hand

Fans of the hit sitcom have hit the internet to share how they have only just now spotted that Matthew, who played Chandler Bing on the show, is missing the tip of one of his fingers.

While the finger can be noticed if you go looking for it, it is particularly noticeable in a scene with his roommate Eddie (played by Adam Goldberg).

"When ur watching Friends and u notice that Chandler doesn't have a finger tip," one person tweeted.

"I was today years ol when I learned Chandler from Friends is missing part of his middle finger," another commented.

And another surprised fan said: "Two things: 1. I'm actually watching 'Friends' 2. THE END OF CHANDLER'S MIDDLE FINGER IS MISSING!?!"

Life imitating art?

While no one was poking fun or suggesting there was anything wrong with the detail, many were simply amazed that they had never noticed it until now.

"How did I never notice that when I was younger? hahaha," one wrote.

Sure, many of us missed it, but production crew didn't actually do anything remove the finger from scenes or make a secret of it.

In fact, some fans believe that the Thanksgiving flashback episode where Monica drops a knife on Chandler's foot and chops off his toe might actually be inspired by real life.

"Why did they write the story line in Friends that Monica dropped a knife on Chandler's toe causing him to lose it, when Matthew Perry was already missing a middle finger tip? Seems like reality was trying to help the writers out with that one..." a fan suggested.

So, what actually happened to Matthew’s finger?

OK, so now that you've noticed it (or maybe you knew it before and this whole article is a big waste of time for you.. thanks for sticking around regardless!) let's take a look at WHY Matthew lost his finger in the first place.

The true story depends on who you believe.

According to an old article from The Mirror, Matthew slammed his finger in a door at preschool when he was three years old and living in Canada. But Buzzfeed claims the actor actually injured his hand in the door of a car.

Either way, it was jammed somewhere and not something the star was ever embarrassed about. And nor should he have been.
