Yelp names their top 100 Australian restaurants for 2016

A LIST of the top 100 restaurants in Australia has been released. Here’s the good news: lots of them are cheap.

FEELING hungry? This list is not going to help.

Yelp — an app that publishes crowdsourced reviews about local businesses — has just released its list of Australia’s top 100 restaurants for 2016. And it’s a great antidote to the more highbrow restaurant lists, as many of the eateries can safely sit in the ‘cheap and cheerful’ category.

Mamak (which has restaurants in both Melbourne and Sydney) topped the list in 2015. This year they came in at number 5.

To compile the list they analysed which places were most popular and well reviewed since the app launched Down Under in 2011. They compared businesses from across the country using a ranking that considered ratings and number of reviews, while also accounting for quality, popularity, and statistical fluctuations.

Western Australia was well represented this year, with Toastface Grillah making it into the top 10.

The result is a list that combines classic favourites with up-and-coming new eateries.

Melbourne hot spot Chin Chin has taken out the number one spot and last year’s top eatery Mamak still remains a winning choice, coming in at number five.

The list also shows that Western Australia is one of Australia’s top foodie destinations with four of the top ten eateries and 38 of the top 100 places to eat for 2016 — more than any other state.
