The McDonald’s recipe change that is disgusting fans

MCDONALD’S has made a change to its Big Mac recipe in an attempt to bring millennials into the restaurant, but not everyone is lovin’ it.

OF ALL the products on fast food menus, the Big Mac is arguably the most sacred.

Created in 1967, it’s been a staple on the McDonald’s menu for half a century and its secret sauce still intrigues customers.

So if there’s one menu item you don’t want to mess with, it’s probably this one.

Nonetheless, McDonald’s has been experimenting with its recipe in some stores — but opinion is very mixed.

The restaurant giant is spicing up the Big Mac by adding the sauce of the moment — Sriracha.

The Thai pepper and garlic sauce is the current favourite of hipsters and foodie trendsetters.

They are testing the Sriracha Big Mac in the Columbus, Ohio area in its latest attempt to pep up sales of its most famous sandwich.

The test is expected to run through the end of the year, but might be extended to other markets depending on the response.

If testing proves successful, the new Big Mac may hit other stores around the globe.

If you’re more of a fan of the chips and McNuggets but also want the spicy kick, the burger chain is also offering a Sriracha Mac dipping sauce.

While some people have enjoyed the new addition to the recipe, others aren’t so enamoured.

With only one in five millennials having actually tried a Big Mac — McDonald’s is doing what it can to appeal to the youth market.

The global chain, which has recently been tinkering with its iconic menu, announced that the Big Mac would be also available in a mini and grand size for a few weeks in early 2017.

A spokeswoman said the use of Sriracha sauce now marks the first time the chain has switched out the ingredients in the sandwich for a new flavour profile. She told Buzzfeed: “This is a milestone for McDonald’s.”

The Big Mac has been caught up in a popular online craze, where McDonald’s fans “hack the menu” and change around ingredients to make up new burgers, or make the price cheaper.

When contacted about the new recipe, a rep from McDonald’s Australia said “whilst we know some of our customers are fans of spice we don’t have current plans to introduce the Sriracha Big Mac”.
