Shopper leaves cranky letter attached to pack of Easter buns at Coles

A shopper who felt particularly strongly about hot cross buns being on display in Coles has left a terse letter on a pack for other consumers to find.

Few things are certain in life: death, taxes and the annual debate over supermarket hot cross buns being sold in the days following Christmas.

Like clockwork, fury was unleashed online this week after a shopper discovered a cranky handwritten note stuck to a six pack of chocolate Easter buns inside a Perth Coles.

“The last time I checked, the celebration of the birth and death of Jesus were not separated by less than a month,” the terse letter, penned on a floral notepad, read.

In the hours after the image was shared to Facebook, passionate consumers weighed in on the age-old discussion.

Of more than 700 people to comment on the post, many were left shaking their head at the unnecessary aggressive tone.

“Imagine being angry about some bread with a cross on it,” one person wrote.

“I’ll have hers if she would prefer to wait until Easter,” someone else said.

“Who knew that would be upset at something that vaguely represents their religion being on display for more days of the year?” a third wrote.

Others were in disbelief someone would go to the trouble of writing out a note to stick on a singular pack of hot cross buns in Coles.

“Imagine being this put out by a bakery item,” one said.

Many were entirely unbothered at the appearance of hot cross buns on shelves and proudly announced they had already happily indulged.

“I got them literally on Boxing Day. Who cares?” one wrote.

“I’m going to hell, I’ve already eaten a packet,” someone else said.

Dozens said they would eat the buns year-round if they could.

Coles announced last year it would be selling them all year, however many shoppers claimed that had not been the case at their local store.

“I welcome warm addition rolls all year round,” one wrote.

“I’m going to complain that they’re not sold 365 days of the year,” another said.
