A colony of rats has been filmed scurrying around inside the kitchen of a popular late-night eatery in shocking viral footage.
The video, uploaded by a TikTok user over the weekend, showed the closed front of Indian Home Diner on Oxford Street in Paddington, in Sydney’s inner east, before zooming into a lit back room where a pack of rats were seen making themselves at home.

Several rats could be seen milling around on the floor as another walked along the edge of a green bin. Another attempted to climb up the side of a white bucket.
The stomach-churning clip has been viewed more than 720,000 times as of Monday.
“Ratatouille! I knew it was actually a documentary,” one viewer commented.
“Never again,” another vowed of the Oxford Street institution.
“I regularly go to this place they do a really nice butter rat and rice with Naan bread for $16.95 very affordable,” one joked.
“Vindaloo rat is to die for,” another wrote.
“Bro I ate dinner here last night,” one added, with another noting, “They do the best 2am butter chicken kebab.”
One TikTok user claimed, “Sydney is built on sewerage tunnels. 99.9 per cent of restaurants have rodents. I worked with a cleaning company that cleaned kitchens. All had them.”
Another agreed, “Nearly every restaurant in the city is like this.”
Indian Home Diner was closed on Monday when phoned for comment.
It comes after pest controllers last year told The Daily Telegraph the city’s rat problem was the “worst in 20 years”.
Two years ago the popular takeaway was banned from trading until 3am on weekends before the decision was reversed by Woollahra Council.
The original decision was based on noise concerns and the belief the late-night trading hours were “not in the public interest”, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Indian Home Diner argued not being able to trade until 3am would “cripple” the restaurant”.
The NSW Food Authority, which falls under the Department of Primary Industries, has been contacted for comment.
Indian Home Diner has previously received glowing customer reviews, with a 4.3-star rating on Google.
“Such a cool experience to see them make the Indian kebabs in front of you!” one reviewer wrote last year.
“There were so many options to choose from and combinations you’re able to make! The naan, curry and chicken combinations are so tasty. Would definitely come back here!”
