Piecaken is the internet’s latest dessert craze

IT’S different types of pie stuffed inside a cake. And it’s all the rage on social media.

MOVE over Cronut. The Piecaken is here to knock you off your hybrid-dessert perch.

So ... what on earth is a piecaken?

It’s a couple of different types of pie stuffed inside of a cake (reminiscent of the savoury turducken, which is a roast dish consisting of a boned chicken inside a boned duck which is then placed inside a partially boned turkey). You can put two pies in as per the image above, or really push the boat out and go for three.

Piecakens are the new rage on social media after gaining popularity in the US over the Thanksgiving holiday.

But piecaken isn’t a new treat. In Houston, Three Brothers Bakery has featured its version since 2010. They call it the Pumpecapple.

It is made up of a bottom layer of apple pie baked inside a spice cake, middle layer of pecan pie baked inside a chocolate cake, and a top layer of pumpkin pie inside a spice cake. It has a cream cheese filling and frosting. It has crushed pecans on the side and is topped with a caramel drizzle.

But the piecaken that’s getting global attention is the one from David Burke Fabrick in New York City.

It’s a spiced poundcake with layers of pecan pie and pumpkin pie, topped with upside-down apple pie, slathered in cinnamon buttercream and edged in oat struessel:
