A popular fast food chain has introduced a “one of a kind” Aussie menu item — and brought back a fan favourite at the same time.
McDonald’s Australia has introduced Vegemite Shaker fries. The brand said “nothing tastes more Australian” than Vegemite.
Now, customers can purchase the fries alongside the seasoning.
But, the item that really caught the attention of fans was the return of the Cadbury Crunchie McFlurry. Fans can get a taste of the item with either a vanilla or chocolate soft serve. Customers can also get a Crunchie Frappe.
Rumours first started to swirl about the new menu drop in October 2024 after popular food creator @nectoriouspapi shared an image of the range.
“Who’s trying,” he captioned the image.
Fans of the fast food chain were quick to express their excitement.
“THE VEGEMITE FRIES AND THE CRUNCHIE MCFLURRY OMGGG,” one social media user commented.
One added: “Who’s trying? Cause I am BHAHAHAHAHAHA.”
“About time Crunchie comes back,” another added.
One said: “Why McDonald’s EVER got rid of Crunchie McFlurry will forever be a mystery. Better than both Oreo and M'n'M. Glad to see the goat is back.”
“The Vegemite McShaker Fries should be a permanent staple on the menu,” another said.
One social media user said: “OMG they finally read my comments! BRING ON THE CRUNCHIE MCFLURRY BABY!!”
Other items that are part of the menu drop include the McOz, which is back for the first time since 2018. The burger includes beetroot, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, mustard and ketchup. Customers can either get a beef or a chicken version.
There is also the “Squad Down Under Bundle” for four people, following the success of the Grimace Meal.
The meal features two McOz burgers and two other “core” burgers. It also includes four medium Vegemite McShaker fries, four medium drinks and a bucket hat. The meal is an adult-sized box featuring McDonaldland characters.
Finally, the Caramel Thickshake will also be part of the release. Most of the menu items will be released on January 8. However, the thickshake will land in stores on January 22.
“This summer, we’re serving up Aussie favourites with a menu full of local flavours and feel-good moments, Amanda Nakad, marketing director for McDonald’s Australia, said.
“From the return of the McOz to the new Vegemite McShaker Fries, we’re making every Macca’s run this summer a celebration of what it means to be Aussie.
“And who better to celebrate the most exciting Macca’s run of all time than our OG McDonaldland mates on Aussie soil, bringing the Squad Down Under Bundle – the ultimate value feast to share with friends and family.”
