Aussie influencer Skye Wheatley has taken a stand against her local fish and chip shop, accusing them of misleading customers with deceptive photos and providing “appalling” customer service after she complained about her disappointing experience.
The reality TV star, 30, who boasts over 650k Instagram followers, shared a seven-minute-long video last week after receiving a fish burger that looked nothing like the enticing photo shown on the Uber Eats app.
The product image featured a mouth-watering image of a soft bun, a large piece of crispy fish, creamy tartare sauce, fresh lettuce and tomato.
However, the reality was quite different.
For $15.60, Wheatley received a burger that contained just two small pieces of fish, a tiny smear of sauce, and a dirty chunk of tomato that still had the core attached.
“This is what came. I am absolutely raging. I’m so happy I can afford to eat, and I know not everyone has the luxury of ordering takeout, but what an absolute f***ing p*ss take,” she expressed in her Instagram stories.
Shocked by the presentation, Wheatley and her boyfriend, Lachlan Waugh, decided to call the fish and chip shop to voice their concerns.
However, their complaint was ignored and the staff allegedly hung up on them and turned off the phone.
The influencer told her followers, “The fish was wet. I’m sure they just grabbed it out of the fish tank and slapped it on.
“It’s not just the burger, or the presentation and how disgustingly appalling the food was that’s the issue. It’s the customer service.”

Usually, influencers face backlash for seeming entitled when speaking out against small businesses, but in this instance, many rallied behind Wheatley.
The celebrity gossip podcast Outspoken noted, “I’m Team Skye here. It’s absolutely disgusting to hang up on a customer when they have a legitimate complaint like this. The least the worker could have done is apologise and offer some form of refund. They clearly didn’t know who they were dealing with. If they had known it was Skye Wheatley, they would have sent her another burger”.
Commenters on Outspoken’s post echoed this sentiment.
“Okay, that’s actually bad,” admitted one user, while another stated, “This is fair enough,” agreeing that they would also complain under similar circumstances.
“I’d be so mad, but that’s also hilarious,” said a third commenter.
Others labelled the burger “filth,” “awful,” and “diabolical”.
However, some people speculated that the restaurant might have known who Wheatley was and intentionally done this to her order to troll or prank her.
“They knew exactly what they were doing,” suggested one, while another added, “That looks like it was intentional”.
On the other hand, a few believed it might have been an honest mistake.
“I think she could have opted to deal with the business directly because one bad mistake by an employee can be rectified by management,” one person remarked.

In a recent update, Wheatley posted to her stories on Sunday night that she had finally found a good fish and chip shop, sharing a video of a satisfying spread featuring grilled fish, prawns, and chips with the caption, “Now this is good fish and chips.”
