Nine in 10 Australians say they are changing their buying habits in an effort to slash their grocery bills, with many cutting back on meat and treats.

Off the back of these findings, from a survey of 15,000 Coles customers, the supermarket has reduced the price of more than 200 products for winter – some by as much as 50 per cent.

The price of several Coles brand meats have been cut for the next three months – including boneless pork belly roast by 16 per cent to $16/kg, and pork barbecue ribs and chicken mince by 15 per cent to $17/kg and $5.50 respectively.

Beef blade roast will also be 13 per cent cheaper, at $13/kg, with savings on offer for diced beef and chicken breast mince, too.

Spag bol, lasagne and tacos are expected to be on the menu in households across Australia as a result of the savings on mince, according to the survey results.

Mum of two Katie Date said the price reductions would also allow more roast dinners – a winter family favourite – to be served up in her household.

“We’re always looking for affordable cuts of meat to cook up as the weather cools down,” she said.

Customers will save on several other winter comfort foods, including Tip Top pizza bases (down 38 per cent to $4), a 2kg bag of Coles whitewashed potatoes (47 per cent to $4), Heinz Big’N Chunky soups (32 per cent to $3) and Coles Finest By Laurent white Sourdough Vienna bread (7 per cent to $6.50).

Coles chief commercial officer Anna Croft said products people “love to buy and cook with through the winter months” had specifically been reduced.

“Cold evenings call for hearty meals, and we’re lowering the cost of roast dinners with savings on roasting meats and our Australian-grown potatoes … to help stretch budgets further,” she said.

Products lowered in price from May 29 for the next three months include:
