One Melbourne high school has taken fundraising to the next level this election, not only offering voters a democracy sausage but an extensive menu – including oysters!
Along with their oysters, local residents could get a glass of “award-winning” champagne or prosecco while hitting the polls at Richmond High School’s Gleadell St campus on Saturday.
If that wasn’t fancy enough, the menu also featured a range of other gourmet foods like Vietnamese sausage rolls and “Jamie Oliver” burgers.
The $43 million public school opened in 2018 for Year 7 students and has added an additional year level each year since. Next year it will enrol students from Year 7 to 12.
The school’s website describes it as a “bespoke, multi-level coeducational learning space”.
On its Facebook page, Richmond High School said election day would be their first major community fundraising event since the school opened.

A picture of the menu shared on social media showed one offering took a dig at the Liberals.
“Plain old boring burger for wimps and right-wing Liberals” was listed as a $10 lunch item below the Jamie Oliver burger options priced between $15 and $22 (the later was if you added a beer).
The most expensive item on the menu was $42: “6 oysters and a glass of Duperrey Brut Premiere Cru Champagne 94pts award-winning”.
The traditional democracy sausage and bread? $3.50.
The fundraiser was the brainchild of parents Sarah Nguyen and Chris Edwardes, according to The Age.
“Richmond’s a funny suburb. We’re the second-richest suburb in Victoria, and about one-third of our kids come from social and public housing,” Mr Edwardes said.
“I took a bit of a gamble and I put on some fairly gourmet food, and my wife cooked a lot of Vietnamese food.”
Mr Edwardes was photographed wearing a T-shirt with a picture of Scott Morrison and the word loser.
