What do Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and Jeremy Allen White have in common? Apart from owning the title of ‘white boy of the month’ at some point, they all have good personal style. It’s an imperative part of what turned the bad boy from Euphoria, the sad boy from Normal People and the mad boy from The Bear into more than just TV stars, but certified It-boys. 

Where would Elordi be without his barefoot, handbag-toting paparazzi shots? Or Mescal without his very short shorts? What about Allen White and his giant bouquets wearing his trusty white Cortez? We’re sure they would still all be booked and busy, but they wouldn’t be on IG moodboards or being papped with the likes of Rosalía and Kaia Gerber. 

At the end of the day, good, and importantly, individual style has helped these guys, and the nine other stars on this list, establish their identities beyond their roles and the work they do. And it can help you too. 

With that in mind, we’re not advocating for taking any one of these 12 guys’ whole gestalts. Instead, we’ve chosen one thing we love about their style that you can take (or leave) and make a part of your own unique mix.

Jeremy Allen White

‘Worn out’ is better than ‘brand new’

Since Jeremy Allen White went from his teenage supporting role in Shameless to angsty chef in The Bear, he entered into a whole new space in the zeitgeist and became a star in his own right. Since then, one thing that hasn't changed for the 33-year-old has been his style. He still wears the same beat-to-death New York Mets cap and he is rarely seen without his battered all-white Nike Cortez.

The tip here is not to go out and buy a Mets hat and a pair of Nike Cortez, but instead, wear your clothes! Few things are as stylish as an outfit that looks lived in and the only way to get one of those is to get off the consumption treadmill and actually live in your clothes. 

Austin Butler

Stick with your silhouette

Austin Butler has found the silhouette that works for him and he sticks to it. When he hits the red carpet—or even a more casual event—he almost always dons a double-breasted blazer. Sometimes he does it with a full suit with a tie, sometimes it’s separates with a singlet, and he’s even rocked it with a T-shirt and jeans. These are all looks that you could easily replicate by adding a simple double-breasted jacket to your closet—seriously, everyone looks good with this outfit.

But the bigger lesson is to find a silhouette that looks good on you and work within its boundaries. Butler applies the same principle to his casual looks but instead of rocking a double-breasted blazer, he throws on a work jacket that creates a similar top-heavy aspect to his outfit. If an outfit works for you, take note of the overall shape of it and try to replicate it as much as you can. 

Jacob Elordi

Like a style? Try the other flavours

Late last year, Jacob Elordi had an impeccable run of wearing fluffy knit cardigans and polos. Beyond their different sorbet flavours, they were all slightly different, but they essentially fulfilled the same function in each of his outfits. One was a straight cardigan, another was a collared cardigan and the third was a three-quarter polo. Each of them he wore with jeans, boots and a white T-shirt or singlet. Each outfit looked great and gave Elordi’s style a reliable rhythm. Now, you don’t need to make every outfit of yours the same, but if you find a style that works for you, there is a lot to be said for doubling down and making it a signature in your rotation. 

A$AP Rocky

The devil is in the details

A$AP Rocky is one of the most stylish men on the planet, but the one thing he does better than anyone else is accessorise. Whether he is dressing an outfit up or down, he always takes it up another notch by getting funky with the details. A simple white T-shirt and jeans? Rocky will add a pearl wallet chain to go with his pearl bracelet, necklace, statement ring and trucker hat. Then, when he’s heading out for date night with Rihanna, he adds a tie, more pearl hair clips and a giant pink handbag. 

These aren’t necessarily pieces that every man can work into their wardrobes, but every man should be improving their outfits with some statement accessories. It could be a special watch, some jewellery, a funky belt or adding a tie to your fit, but stepping out without a few accessories is like making a pasta without any seasoning—it will be bland, brother. 

Paul Mescal

Crop it up to mix it up

Like Butler and his favourite silhouette, Paul Mescal has figured out a style that works for him and is sticking to it. For him, it’s all about a cropped look. Unlike Butler though, this tip is more about assessing the pieces in your wardrobe and identifying how you can make them a little bit more interesting. It doesn’t have to be cropped, but as you can see above, by playing with the proportions of his outfits—sometimes by buying something intentionally smaller and others by getting the scissors out—he makes them much more unique and stylish. Think about how you can do the same. 

Glen Powell

Don’t forget your roots

Style has a lot to do with identity. But it isn’t always about expressing the identity you want, it’s about representing the unchangeable details that make you who you are. Glen Powell does this in a few ways. At times, the proud Austin-born Texan will wear his Longhorn roots on his person in the form of cowboy boots or a bolo tie. At others, he shows his hometown pride by wearing clothes that share his roots: namely designs from another Austin-born Texan named Tom Ford (above left and right). 

In a world where you can have clothes shipped from Japan almost as easily as you can from Australia, it is easy to globalise your personal mode, but adding a touch of your roots is a surefire way to cement your style and identity. 

Timothée Chalamet

Take big swings

For many, getting dressed in the morning is about function. It’s simply putting something on to blend in with your contemporaries. But, as Timothée Chalamet knows, stepping out in something a little eye-catching, a little crazy, is one way to spice up your days. You don’t need to be going crazy every day, but on occasion, take a risk and put something on that is a bit out there, but you truly love. It might not land with everyone, but it will make your day interesting. 

Tyler, The Creator

Juxtaposition; noun 1. an act or instance of placing close together or side by side, especially for contrast

This is a bit more of a pro tip, but one of the best ways to level up your looks is by working in a touch of friction with two juxtaposing styles. Tyler, The Creator is a master of this. For him, the worlds of streetwear and prep collide creating looks that you don’t see every day; or at least you didn’t until he made the style popular. Loafers with T-shirts, baseball caps with cricket jumpers, ties and puffer jackets—these are all things that don’t traditionally belong together. But when you say fuck tradition it creates a style marriage that is way more fun than keeping everything in its own lanes. If your fit feels a bit boring, add a dose of juxtaposition king. 

Callum Turner

When in doubt, get the emergency leather jacket

Look, this is fairly simple. Just get a good leather jacket man. They work for everyone and they are all you need to make an outfit interesting. How does Turner keep up with his megastar girlfriend Dua Lipa? He breaks out the emergency leather jacket. If it works next to her, it will work in any situation you need to elevate your style. 

Troye Sivan

Loyalty is important

Like paying homage to your roots, investing in one brand you love is a great way to give your style a unified identity. Troye Sivan knows this all too well from his relationship with Prada. If a designer’s identity aligns with yours, be loyal to them and keep rolling with it. Not only will your style grow as their designs do, but you will build a bond beyond simple function with those pieces in your wardrobe. (Yes, we know Sivan has become an ambassador for Prada, but the point still stands—it is a match made in heaven.)

Josh O’Connor

Season with a surprising colour

One way to season an outfit is with good accessories, but another is with a dash of unexpected colour. This is something Josh O’Connor has been doing with aplomb all throughout his Challengers press tour. A small dose of electric green here, some subtle burgundy there—it doesn’t need to be drastic but playing some subtle pops of colour is something we all should master. Take the above two looks for example. With a white shirt or a black singlet, they would both work and be fine, but with colour, they are fire. 

Charles Melton

Make one (1) weird move with every look

Coco Chanel famously said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” Well, we think you should do it a bit differently. Before you leave the house, take a squiz in the reflective glass and ask yourself, am I making one—just one—surprising or weird move with this fit? If the answer is no, swap your pants for shorts, add some juxtaposing colour or mess around with your silhouette. Charles Melton nails this principle. Every fit we see from him is slightly off-kilter and always interesting.
