Taylor Johnson was so happy with her new outfit that she’d brought, especially to see singer Pink that she felt she “had” to share it online but the response left her shocked.
Ms Johnson, 28, is such a fan of Pink that she’s even joined a Facebook group dedicated to Aussie fans attending her current tour.
She’s loved the singer since childhood and was so thrilled she was finally in a position to be able to afford to attend one of her shows.
The community page is usually a positive place that is filled with fans offering advice, sharing set-list spoilers and discussing clothes.
The Melbourne local figured that the people in the group would appreciate her custom Sequin Polar Bears outfit.
Ms Johnson posted the photo and revealed she’d be wearing a pink and sparkly outfit, and she was going to pair it with love heart-shaped sunglasses and pink sneakers.
She added that she planned to finish her hair and nails for the concert, but otherwise, fellow fans saw the complete look.
In the photo, she just looked ecstatic to show off her fabulous outfit, but the response left her feeling “low.”.
Almost immediately, people were writing cruel comments about her weight and her breasts, and she was stunned.
She said the negative comments began “straight” away, although some comments had now been deleted where people commented things like “ewww.”
“I was shocked, so I edited my post to say if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it at all,” Ms Johnson told news.com.au.
Calling the comments not nice would be putting it mildly because people in the group didn’t hold back.
One person wrote that they were all for “body confidence” but it looked like she was hiding “three pigs” underneath her outfit.
The person also asked if she’d looked in the mirror.
Another woman said that Ms Johnson didn’t have a “decent” pair of breasts and, therefore, couldn’t pull the look off.
She added that Ms Johnson should wear a bra.
Ms Johnson replied and said she was a young mum who had breastfed her children and wasn’t in a position even to be able to afford to get a breast lift.
One woman offered up some unsolicited advice and said that Ms Johnson should learn to dress for her “body” and called her breasts “saggy.”
Another commented and slammed the outfit and said it was too “revealing” and another said she should have considered her body shape before buying the outfit because it wasn’t “flattering” and added women didn’t have enough “respect” for themselves.
When someone requested Ms Johnson wear a bra with the outfit, she replied and said it would look “horrible” with one, and instead of the conversation ending, the person responded and said the outfit already looked “terrible.”
Somehow, Johnson’s post, which was meant to be fun, lighthearted and a celebration of a very pink and fun outfit, turned into a body-shaming cesspit.
The young mum said that the comments were a mix between both hate and positive comments but the hates ones are harder to forget.
“At first it made me feel low about myself I started questioning myself. But only after just a few minutes I remembered who I am and what I have been through in life and that they are just hurt people trying to hurt people,” she said.
Ms Johnson said while she’s not going to let anyone “bring her down”, the cruel response did surprise her, especially because the group is meant to be a positive place.
“I was very shocked by the response I was not expecting the hate,” she said.
Still, Johnson said she also got so “many” comments from people telling her how good she looked and even after the trolling her heart was still “full.”
