The Grinch is one of the all-time Christmas classics everyone in the family is happy to watch over and over.
For many years, fans have shared theories about the much-loved festive flick - including where and when it was set - but a new one has come to light and it's blowing fans' minds.
Have you ever wondered why Cindy Lou's nose in How The Grinch Stole Christmas is different from everyone else who lives in Whoville?
It's touched on briefly in the scene when Mayor Augustus May Who (played by Jeffrey Tambor) gets angry at main character Cindy for wanting to include the 'mean' green Grinch in the town's Christmas celebrations.
“Did anyone listen to me?? No, you choose to listen to a little, not-to-be-taken-seriously girl, who hasn’t even grown into her nose yet!" he famously declares.
Now, the actress who plays Cindy Lou has shared that this iconic line was actually placed in the film to 'hide' the real reason she didn't have the same nose as the rest of the neighbours.

The Grinch theories fans have shared
First, let’s get into the theories fans have shared about why they thought Cindy Lou had a different nose.
"I thought it was because they needed to make her stand out in the movie as much as possible when I was a kid so they made her slightly different like the Grinch?" one person told Kidpsot.
"Maybe she's the Grinch's love child?" another joked.
And another mum said: "They say it in the movie, don't they? Because they grow as they get older?"
Well, the answer to that is no. And it's come straight from one of the stars' mouths.

The real reason Cindy Lou has a different nose
According to star, Taylor Momsen, who was just seven years old when she took on the big role, the mayor's line about her having to 'grow into' her Whoville nose was placed in the film by director Ron Howard to mask the real reason.
The fact is, she was simply too young to have prosthetics put on her face.
“I was too young to wear the prosthetics so they wrote a line into the film, 'She hasn’t even grown into her nose yet,'” she shared with Today in the US.
“So they just put full blush on my nose," she added.

While her co-stars such as Christine Baranski, Molly Shannon and Bill Irwin all wore prosthetic noses as they took on their Whoville characters, the young star was dressed up in a wig, fake eyelashes, and fake teeth, which she admits were a lot for her to handle on set at such a young age.
Taylor reveals there was a lot of preparation that went on behind the scenes of the classic flick. In fact, the actors who played Whoville residents were also shipped off to a month-long "Who training" boot camp to get them into character.
But the film is so much more than just a creative set and a dedicated, ensemble cast.
“I think that people love The Grinch just simply because the core of the story is so sweet and it’s so heartwarming and it has such a good message,” Taylor said.
“That no matter what age touches your heart, I think that that’s an amazing thing to be a part of."
