Bikini-clad Sydney tradie calls out ‘double standards’ at work

A woman, dubbed the “Bikini Tradie”, has said she felt “degraded” when denied the chance to do something the men do at work every day.

Revealing upside down bikini trend takes over social media

A woman, who has dubbed herself the “Bikini Tradie”, has said she felt “degraded” after being denied the chance to work shirtless.

Shianne Foxx is currently employed as a landscaper in Sydney, having previously worked in the mines.

However, she set social media on fire when she aired her frustrations at a “double standard” in the industry relating to work clothing.

Ms Foxx, who typically wears a bikini while she’s completing tasks, was working on a 40 degree celcius day and said she wanted to work topless like her male counterparts.

But, she claims, she was told by her boss she couldn’t, as it would be a “distraction” to others.

“It was such a hot day. Obviously when you work in the industry, lots of the boys have their tops off,” she told news.com.au.

“I thought it was only fair if I could get mine off too. I have no shame in getting my boobs out.

“I don’t think it should be ‘distracting’ because at the end of the day they’re just a natural thing.”

Ms Foxx claims men who are completely shirtless “have their boobs out”, asking: “What’s the difference between a male nipple and a female one?

“At the end of the day, we all have breasts. It’s just a natural thing. If you’re going to be childish and feel like they’re going to be distracting, then you should just grow up,” she said.

Ms Foxx, who also creates content for OnlyFans, explained that she decided to share her thoughts on the incident on social media because there aren’t many women in tradesman roles - and she wants to highlight the difference in treatment.

“I’ve been working in male-dominated jobs for the last four or so years. I thought if I put myself out there, maybe other women will want to join the trades industry,” she said.

Despite the gender disparity at work, Ms Foxx she said she loved working in male-dominated spaces.

“A lot of people say you get catcalled, but it’s nothing like that at all,” she said.

“From my experience, if you just go in their with your head held high and if you don’t let men have it over you.

“Stand your ground. They won’t do anything.”

The comments on Ms Foxx’s video have been divided.

Some agree that she shouldn’t work topless, others said they saw no issue with it - and there were even a few who were incredibly inappropriate.

“Surely there’s an aircon in the kitchen,” one sexist commenter remarked.

Another social media user raged: “It is because if men look at you you make a big deal about it that is why.”

“Good idea but the only possible problem is that the men could get too distracted and get hurt,” another commented.

Ms Foxx said she’s not let the gross comments get her down, stating everyone is entitled to their opinion, adding that if she took it all in she’d be “the most unhappiest person in the world”.

Ms Foxx said she is confident in her body, and working in a bikini, is why she started the Bikini Tradie account. She said it’s how she expresses herself — and help women be comfortable working in these roles.

In some of her other videos, she mocks the double standards in the industry, but a recent video in which she said she agreed with Marty Sheargold’s “disgusting” views on female sport has fallen flat with followers.

“Why are girls too afraid to admit that female sport just isn’t good?” she captioned a clip in which she rants about the Australian Women’s soccer team, The Matildas.

Many slammed Ms Foxx for her views.

“He was sacked for another reason. He belittled women. Do some proper research,” suggested one.

“Google ‘define a pick me’,” shared another.
