Aussies are torn over Kmart's $19 summer bargain buy

Some say it's a lifesaver for entertaining, but others have their concerns.

Summer is the season for entertaining, but nothing is worse than fighting flies off your cheese and crackers, which are also heating up by the minute in the blazing sun.

Thankfully, one mum has found the perfect solution, and it’s just $19.

“You need to go to Kmart!”

An Aussie mum of four on TikTok as @ohsobusymum_ has taken to the app to share her find.

“If you’re like me and you hate the idea of a platter sitting out in the heat with all the meat and cheese on it, you need to go to Kmart and get this serving platter with ice cube tray,” she said.

“They’re only $19 and you can find them in the party section of Kmart.”

The Serving Platter with Ice Tray contains five compartments to add food and a large tray for ice underneath, ensuring everything stays chilled.

“All you have to do is pop the ice underneath, and then fill each section with whatever food that you like,” she said.

“There is a section in the middle there for the dips.”

Each section also has a lid to keep things fresh.

“Another thing that I love about this tray is that it has lids, so all the food is covered and protected from flies,” she said.

“Consider me influenced!”

Commenters on the post were obsessed with the product, saying they couldn’t wait to get their hands on one.

“Great idea 🌸🌸,” said one commenter.

Some weren’t even in it for the ice, with the structure of the product itself - complete with lids and dividers - well and truly the main attraction.

“I want it just for the lids!” said one commenter.

“Love this!! Especially the little covers, how clever 😃” another agreed.

“It is the best!”

It seems that the item isn’t entirely new to Kmart, with some saying they’ve had theirs for over 15 years, proving it well and truly stands the test of time.

“I have had one of these for years it is the best,” said one commenter.

“I’ve had this for 7 years. Ice doesn’t last long, but still good to use regardless,” another said.

“I've had mine for 8 years they're great,” a third agreed.

“I've had one of these for about 15 yrs from kmart 👌👌👌” added another commenter.

“Not worth it!”

However, others still had their concerns.

“Living is Aus, that ice will turn to water almost instantly. They should have made it with better insulation, not plastic,” said one commenter.

“Not worth it cos you will be topping the ice all the time,” another agreed.

“Plastic is terrible for good quality cheese,” another commenter suggested.

“It’s huge and bulky with a billion pieces to clean. Got one for Christmas and went straight into donation pile,” another said.
