Aussie mum calls out discrepancy between boys and girls clothing

"I’m so disappointed every time," one mum said. But, not everyone agrees.

We know all too well with the rise of the ‘boring beige baby’ aesthetic that the way we dress our kids is changing.

Do we want them to be dressed up like fairies and superheroes, and in random colour combinations that we don’t care will get destroyed, like we were growing up, or do we want them to be a little more stylish, adhering to 2025’s trends?

One Aussie mum has pointed out a huge discrepancy between what’s available to purchase for boys and girls - and parents are torn.

“Why are girls' clothes so much cuter though…”

Aussie mum Bethany Fiegert took to TikTok this week to share a comical video showing the difference between boys' and girls' clothing at Kmart.

For the girls, the music was the regular version of ‘Just Give Me A Reason’ by P!NK and Nate Ruess, showing some cute, stylish pieces.

But, for the boys, it switched to an out-of-key version, instead showing clothing with logos, and typical ‘buy’ interests, like Hot Wheels and trucks.

“Why are girls' clothes so much cuter though…” she wrote in the caption.

“Next year I’m teaching myself to sew”

Many commenters on the post agreed with her stance.

“Literally… I could buy my daughter a whole new wardrobe in one shop, shopping for my son is a nightmare,” one person said.

“I’m a girly, aesthetic kind of gal myself and I go to buy clothes for my son and I’m so disappointed every time,” another agreed.

“As a boy mum - hate this! My son isn’t into cars, trucks, dinosaurs bla blaaaaa it’s soo annoying. I’ve resorted to secondhand shops and SHEIN… next year I’m teaching myself to sew,” said a third.

“Let them enjoy being kids”

However, just as many disagreed, saying they’d prefer for their little ones to be dressed ‘like kids’, in the style of the existing boys' range.

“Why am I over here a girl mum wishing my girl had the boys clothes range. Especially the paw patrol range. Or other things. I went and got my girl some stuff from the boy range because I liked it better,” said one commenter.

“They got plenty of time to dress like an adult. Let them enjoy being kids,” said another.

“As a boy mum, I love how they’re kids clothing, because they’re kids and not to be aesthetically pleasing,” said a third.

“Because they're for children not for adults to force an aesthetic on them… let kids be kids and like kids stuff,” another person agreed.
