Why are chips being installed under my Bins?

When it comes to bin night, someone in the street always has to be first, so that everyone else knows what’s going on and follows suit.

This person, is fondly referred to as a ‘binfluencer’.

“Will we ever be able to show face in the street again?”

A Melbourne local has taken to Reddit to share their story of getting bin night wrong, which, let’s be real, has happened to the best of us.

“My binfluencer fiancé was proactive (ie. first in the street) but put the wrong bin out last night, which led to most of the street leaving the wrong bin overnight,” they said.

“I realised she had made a mistake and corrected our bin situation when I got home late last night, but of course, didn’t realise the neighbours had followed her lead. There’s absolute scenes today with people missing the right bin collection as a result and panicking.

“Will we be able to ever show face in the street again? Have we reached ‘move to a new state’ territory? Does anyone have any tips on how she could carry her guilt for the next 2 weeks?”

“You need to leave her”

Commenters on the post thought the story was hilarious.

“I know it's cliché reddit advice, but honestly, you need to leave her, your relationships over,” one commenter joked.

“Deny everything and brazen it out,” said another.

“Can they prove she put the wrong bin out? Photos or it didn’t happen,” another person said.

But, some said it was more relatable than anything else - teaching fellow binfluencers a lesson.

“This can actually be a life lesson, that no one really knows what's going on and just following each other despite being able to search the schedule online in just a few seconds. I just set reminder each week for which bin goes out,” one person said.

“I double check the local council bin calendar every week just to make sure I'm putting the right bin out. Takes 4 seconds, and means I'm not relying on someone else to know what bin it is,” said another.

“Just set a recurring reminder on your phone calendar and never think about it again lol,” a third added.
