Abbie Chatfield shuts down ‘weird’ weight loss speculation online

Abbie Chatfield has shut down a follower’s accusation that “using” is behind her recent weight loss, stating: “What a weird thing to say”.

Abbie fires up at weight loss critics

Abbie Chatfield has again responded to speculation around her body, calling one follower’s accusation that she’s “using” something to “lose weight” a “weird f***ing thing to say”.

The popular TV and radio presenter uploaded a video on TikTok responding to a comment that read: “Abbie it’s clear your (sic) using to lose weight.”

The comment did not specify what it is Chatfield is allegedly “using” – a fact she pointed out in her response.

“I would love to know what I’m using. I would love to know what you think I’m using … what do you mean? Because there are so many reasons why I’ve lost weight – there are so, so many,” she said.

“One of them, obviously, includes my prescribed ADHD medication.

“I didn’t start taking it with the intention to lose weight. In fact, I spoke to my psychiatrist about the fact that I’m kind of worried about it. It doesn’t make sense to get that medication to lose weight – it’s a side effect for some people.”

The “big reason”, however, “is that I just enjoy exercising” – with Chatfield saying she works out, at a minimum, for an hour each day.

“It is the only thing that I can control in my life – to have an hour where no one calls me, no one texts me, I don’t have to do work. My managers know that hour of the day is Abbie’s personal training. And then the other couple of hours of the day [I exercise] is walking my dog,” she added.

“I also have not been eating fast food. I also haven’t had time to drink, because I work so much. I don’t drink when I’m working. I don’t drink on set. I do not do that, because I don’t want to get into bad habits, and I also don’t work as well if I drink on set.

“So there’s the reasons why I’ve lost weight. No time to socialise to drink, exercising a lot more and actually enjoying exercise – needing exercise to feel sane in this industry, having a dog that needs a lot of exercise, medication – obviously can’t deny that, and I don’t eat fast food anymore just because, to be honest, there’s no Macca’s near me.

“That’s my perception of what’s happened. That’s why. If you must know, I’m not ‘using’, and what a weird f***ing thing to say.”

You’d think in 2023 we’d be beyond fixating on a woman’s figure. But if Chatfield’s experience in recent months is anything to go by, it’s clear that many people are yet to learn any better.

The 27-year-old told Stellar in January she’d been inundated with comments about her appearance – specifically her weight – on her social media.
“People on Instagram love to tell me when my own body is changing, as though I don’t have a mirror,” Chatfield said.

“Weight loss happens because of a myriad of things … I am very, very proud of my relationship with food and exercise.

“I don’t think it’s anyone’s business why someone might have lost weight, unless they express it themselves without being prompted. It doesn’t affect anybody else.”

Chatfield has been open in the past about struggling with body image and disordered eating.

“I used to wake up every day between the ages of 13 and 24 and analyse my body,” she told Stellar.

“I don’t think about it anymore. Maybe it’s a confidence thing, growing up and not giving a sh*t what anyone else thinks. It’s quite a relief.”
